In the first Castlevania Adventure, the fearless vampire hunter Christopher Belmont fought toe-to-toe and whip-to-wing against the vampire king, Count Dracula. Belmont defeated the Count and destroyed his castle, but unfortunatley Dracula used what remained of his magical powers to transform his body into mist, thereby making good his escape. However, his powers were so depleted that he was left unable to tranform into "human" form. The count decided to wait and rebuild his dark forces. Deep inside his black heart he swore revenge on Christopher Belmont and his family.
Fifteen years later, a ceremony was held in the town of Transylvania. The son of Christopher Belmont, Soleiyu Belmont, had come of age, and it was time for the title of vampire hunter to be passed down to him. The ceremony was used to commemorate this occasion. All the citizens of Transylvania rejoiced, hoping that the father-son team of vampire hunters would bring peace to the region forever.
But on the morning after the ceremony, it was discovered that Soleiyu Belmont had vanished into thin air. The ceremony was the chance Dracula had waited for. Soleiyu received great sacred power in the ceremony to mark his adulthood, and Dracula used his last bit of magic to turn Soleiyu's powers against him, tranforming him into a terrible demon. Then, aided by the Soleiyu-demon, Dracula was able to assume human form once again. That evening, to the northeast of the village, the earth shook with a thunderous roar and four ominous castles appeared. And, hidden in a lake at the center of these castles, was another castle---the new lair of Count Dracula!
Horrified to learn that his son had been altered by the forces of evil, Christopher Belmont determined to save Soleiyu and break the ambitions of the Count. He journeyed to the new castles, each ruled by a different power of darkness placed there by the Soleiyu-demon to stop anyone who would tamper with the mystic spell Dracula had cast upon him. Nevertheless, in order to save the village of Transylvania and free his son, Christopher had no choice but to go and fight once again.

Castlevania II: Simon's Quest is the second one of three Castlevania games released on the NES. After the vampire killer Simon Belmont destroyed Count Dracula in the original Castlevania (1987), an evil curse possessed him. The only way Simon can break the count's curse is to find five of Dracula's body parts (which are mysteriously strewn throughout Transylvania) and burn them.
Unlike most of the other Castlevania games, Simon's Quest does not feature the traditional stages but allows you to freely roam the land of Transylvania in the style of Nintendo's Metroid. In several towns Simon can talk with NPC's and buy items in shops adding a touch of Role-Playing.
Note: This is NOT the same game as Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge for the Game Boy.

Set over 200 years before the original Castlevania, Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse follows Trevor Belmont, retainer of the Belmont clan and wielder of the Vampire Killer whip, as he quests to destroy the evil Dark Lord and his minions. You can be joined by nimble thief, Grant DeNasty, the witch Sypha Belnades, or Dracula's own son, Alucard. Or, for those looking for an extra challenge, decline all help and attempt to defeat Dracula using only Trevor.

Castlevania: The Adventure, known as Dracula Densetsu in Japan, is a platform game released for the Game Boy in 1989. It is the first Castlevania title for the system. Castlevania: The Adventure was re-released as part of the Konami GB Collection compilations in Japan and Europe.
Set a century before the events of the original Castlevania, the player controls an ancestor of Simon Belmont named Christopher Belmont who goes on a quest to defeat Dracula.
The game consists of four stages, and unlike other Castlevania games, there are no sub-weapons, but hearts are used to restore health. The player has three lives, after which the game ends. Weapons can be upgraded, such as the whip into the chain whip and flame whip, but any enemy damage will downgrade an upgraded weapon. There are no stairs, unlike other Castlevania games. At the end of each level, there is a "primary evil" to confront. Players can utilize crystals, hearts, and crosses of gold. There is also a point counter, and at 10,000 points, a player receives an extra life, and also receives one for every 20,000 points after that. Each stage also has a time limit in which to complete the level.

The only game in the Castlevania line to be released for the Genesis, this one follows the exploits of two vampire hunters as they battle a mysterious countess bent on reviving Count Dracula.
Features your choice of two characters, the usual solid Castlevania gameplay, outstanding graphics, and lots and lots of blood. I don't like it as well as Castlevania IV for the SNES, but it's still worth a try.

It was the Middle Ages in Transylvania. One man came into possession of an evil power, and the Prince of Darkness was born. Before long, this being used his new-found supernatural powers and the magic powers of his followers to spread his plague of darkness and despair throught the European continent. He was Count Dracula. Even to mention the name of this Prince of Darkness was to cast fear into the hearts of he people in the land, who were powerless to do anything save voice their concern. However, at about the same time a baby girl possessing special powers was born to a family living in a remote area of the country. "Your powers are meant for a higher purpose and not only for yourself," she was often reminded as she was growing up. The plot of this girl's fate began to develop one night in her seventeenth year when she met up with the young enigmatic Alucard, who was on a journey to search for the father that deserted him. The young girl's name was Sonia Belmont, and she was the first of the vampire hunters in the Belmont family to become legendary.

Several hundred years have passed since legendary hero Simon Belmont defeated the evil Count Dracula and sealed him away for what was supposed to be eternity. The people have long forgotten about the horror of the undead, thus allowing a few depraved individuals to restore the Prince of Darkness to his former state; sleeping in his coffin by day and preying upon hapless victims by night.
Dracula now plans to get revenge on his old enemy through his descendants by locking Annet, the girlfriend of Belmont's great gradson, Richter, and her sister, Maria, in his dark gloomy castle.
Once aware of this, Richter takes his ancestor's sacred whip, passed down through the years from father to son, and sets out for Dracula's castle to rescue Annet and Maria, and to seal away the evil Count for good.

A side scrolling platform game. Battle against the forces of the undead as you seek the Haunted Castle, where Dracula himself is keeping your bride captive.

Transylvanian legend has it that every 100 years, Dracula is revived and grows bigger, badder, meaner and nastier than ever. For generations, the Belmont family has kept Dracula in check and prevented him from transforming all of humanity into creatures of darkness.
Now, 100 years have passed since the last clash of the Belmonts and the infamous vampire. In Super Castlevania IV for the Super NES, it is up to you as Simon Belmont to explore the giant, multi-tiered Castle of the Undead, find hidden power-ups, kill monsters and eventually confront old fang-face himself, Count Dracula.
Throughout the entire game, you wield a mystical whip, which can be upgraded in length. Weapons you can acquire during your mission include daggers, firebombs, boomerangs and axes. You can also pick up watches that you can use to freeze your enemies. Other items include: hearts, which give you ammo for your weapons; invisibility potion, which briefly makes you invulnerable; pork chops, which partially revive lost power; and money bags, which award you extra points.
At the end of each of this game's eleven fright-filled levels, you will face a boss character such as Frankenstein, a giant Zapf Bat and a mummy named Akmodan II. Defeating a boss restores your lost power and allows you to continue to the next level. Super Castlevania IV is a one-player game. A password feature is available for use in saving your progress.
