A 3D Tetris clone, but this time you spin your playing pieces about all three axes as you use them to fill up a deep well.
Ugly as sin and sluggish, but great gameplay.

The game is the logical extension of Tetris into the third dimension. In regular Tetris, the player manipulates a set of tetrominoes which fall into a two-dimensional pit (seen from the side). The aim is to solve a real-time packing problem by forming complete rows, which then disappear and score points. Poor play leads to incomplete rows, caused by inefficient arrangements of tiles; these rows do not disappear, giving the player progressively less space and less time to play subsequent pieces. Similarly, in Blockout, the player manipulates a set of polycubes which fall into a three-dimensional pit (seen from above; the pieces appear in the foreground and fall away). The pieces can be rotated around all three axes, and moved horizontally and vertically. The aim is to form complete layers

The gameplay is similar to Tetris in which the player has to direct blocks of stone, mummy and/or treasure to create closures which eliminates the treasure and adds to the player's score. Also if a full line of stone blocks, treasure blocks or mummy blocks is formed they will disappear in a similar fashion to Tetris and also add to the player's score.
The game's name comes from its mascot which is a super deformed version of queen Cleopatra. Additionally, the game utilizes an Egyptian theme.

The game takes place inside a tall, rectangular playing area. Columns of three different symbols (such as differently-colored jewels) appear, one at a time, at the top of the well and fall to the bottom, landing either on the floor or on top of previously-fallen "Columns"
While a column is falling, the player can move it left and right, and can also cycle the positions of the symbols within it.
If, after a column has fallen, there are three or more of the same symbols connected in a straight line horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, those symbols disappear. The pile of columns then settles under gravity. If this causes three or more other symbols to become aligned, they also disappear and the pile settles again. This process repeats as many times as necessary. It is not uncommon for this to happen three or four times in a row - it often happens by accident when the well is becoming crowded. If the well fills beyond the top of the screen, the game ends.
Occasionally, a special column called the Magic Jewel appears. The Magic Jewel flashes with different colors and when it lands, it destroys all the jewels with the same color as the one underneath it.

Columns is loosely derived from Tetris, as it involves arranging falling blocks in such a way as to clear them. However, in columns they are usergroup of 3 same-size but varying color blocks, which must be arranged into sequences of 3 or more, either horizontally, vertically or diagonally. Sequences of 4 or 5 count for double or triple points, and diagonal sequences score the most. The real trick is to set up 'combos' - where one line causes other blocks to drop so as to create other lines.
As well as the normal game mode, there is also a 'flash' mode, in which the aim is simply to remove a particular block from the base of the pre-formed pile of bricks. The difficulty of this can be determined by increasing the number of complete rows which are already in place.
Possibly the best Sega machine implementation of this excellent Tetris beater. It is far more enjoyable and rewarding than the popular original, especially in two-player versus mode.

Drift back to ancient Phoenicia and challenge yourself with Columns, a game favored by middle eastern merchants. In this mesmerizing pastime, tinker with your riches to align glittering jewels across, down, or diagonally. As you line up colors, the gems vanish and more sparklers drop from above. The challenge increases as the jewels fall more rapidly. You must quickly align them before the columns reach the top. Imagine yourself on the warm Mediterranean coast, or drifting over a languid sea. Forget the passage of time, and tickle your mind with Columns, the brilliant game of strategy and skill.

This has long been regarded as the nemesis of Tetris. Arrange the falling jewels to form a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal group of three of the same color.
This has a more serious atmosphere than most puzzle games, and the graphics are beginning to show their age. Decent gameplay, though.

An adaptation of the game featuring Pac-Man characters was released in 1993 called Pac-Attack.
Different combinations of blocks mixed with Cosmo Gangers fall from the top to bottom of the screen. The object is to stack up the blocks to form a complete row causing that row to disappear. To accomplish this a ball must be used to eliminate the Cosmo Gangers that stack up to block your progress.
The gameplay is similar to that of Tetris, except there are Cosmo Gangers that have to be eliminated before it is possible to form complete rows. The speed of the game increases as blocks approach the top of the screen, and the game is over when the blocks reach the top.

Dr. Robotnik, Sonic the Hedgehog's archenemy, is the malicious mastermind of planet Mobius. His favorite hobby is teasing, taunting and tormenting the world and its people. His latest criminal creation is the Mean Bean-Steaming Machine, an infernal contraption that changes the jolly folk of Beanville into devious little robots bent on ridding Mobious of music and fun forever.
To carry out his plan, Robotnik has sent his henchbots to round up the beans and group them together in dungeons. This is where you come in: as each pair of beans comes into the dungeon, you must maneuver and rotate them into place, similar to how you would maneuver and rotate the blocks in Tetris or the gems in Columns. When two beans of the same color touch, they link. To make beans disappear from the dungeon, you must link together four or more of the same color.
When you drop a pair of beans horizontally on an uneven surface, the bean left suspended will separate from the pair and drop to the lowest point in the column. When you cause a grouping of beans to disappear, any beans remaining above the action will drop into place. This can be used to create chain reactions, which give you bonus points. In two-player games, chain reactions help you dump refugee beans into your opponent's dungeon. Refugee beans don't belong to any specific clan and can only be removed by a neighboring group of four or more beans.
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine includes three modes of play: Scenario Mode, 1P vs. 2P Mode, and Exercise Mode. The game ends when your dungeon fills to the top with beans. Occasionally, when all seems lost, a couple of friends will drop in to lend a hand: Has Bean changes beans he walks over to the same color, and Big Bean clears the screen of beans just by dropping on them.
