Monster Hunter!
So I have played Monster Hunter since the first one came out for the PS2, played tons of the PSP ones, and have lately been playing a partially translated version of Monster Hunter 3. I want to talk about how awesome it is.
Does anyone else play, or is anyone else interested in this game?

First one is for PS2, but it is pretty old. Monster Hunter 3 is for Wii. I have a Japanese copy of it. English version comes out in March 2010.

Re: Monster Hunter!
Wii would work out for me then. I'd much rather have a copy for 360 but oh well I guess.
Btw why do you think it's so awesome? From what I've heard/read it's pretty cool but no one says awesome.

Re: Monster Hunter!
I'm definitely picking up a copy of MH3 on day one. Online action/adventure co-op? Yes please.

I have put like 400 hours into the MH games, collectively. I think it is safe to say I LOVE these games.
I honestly don't know what makes me love the games so much. There's just always something to do, a new weapon to get, a new armor set to get, something bigger and better to kill. The epic proportions of some of the fights is crazy. And when it comes to the PSP version, it's really awesome to grab a weapon, head out with 3 of your friends, and mess up a gigantic dragon.
So the combination of so many different goals, awesome co-op game play, and just an interesting concept for a game in general.

Oh and @Tenser: When this game comes out, me and you are hunting some monsters! I hope it supports the WiiSpeak.

Ah, so I can get MH3 as well. I'm looking into Monster Hunter as a possibility.

I just bought it recently, but I haven't played it (or any of the other MH games) yet. It looks good. I should probably connect my new Wii to tne net, so I can play online.

Get decent and then come play with me.
Anyone on here with this game, come play with me. I've got my classic controller pro, I've got my USB keyboard, I'm ready to goooo.

Re: Monster Hunter!
Are the PSP versions good, I am unclear on the gameplay style, and reviews are making it more confusing for me.
I am sort of displeased about the use of Monster Hunter bosses in the upcoming game Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.

The PSP versions are awesome. The gameplay style is hard to describe. I would just watch a youtube video of it being played.

Will do. Sounds fun. I bought the game on a whim after I saw a demo at Gamestop. It looks pretty fun. I got it also because of the nice controller that came with it.

I hope you love it. It's a game that seems very hit or miss with people around here. Myself and several of my friends have put hundreds of hours into it. Then there are people that hate it and say it needs a lock on system (which would ruin it for the people that already love it).
And of course, it's huge in Japan. They have a PC version that I want sooo baddddddddd.

Re: Monster Hunter!
I didn't see if anyone said so or not yet, but is Monster Hunter a role playing game?
Or is it more like an Age of Empires thing {an excellent series} where you're building an army and then attacking your enemies?
Or is it more like this game, which reminds me of something, but I'm not certain what {it's fun and challenging, though}

Im on the fence for this game, I read you really need to invest a lot of time into it.

I don't like the idea of scheduling a gaming time with three friends to go hunt for a few hours.

No friend codes, it's based on lobbies I think.

What's up with the controls on this game, is the pack in controller required? All I have is a wiimote/bumchuck, and my tvc arcade stick.

Re: Monster Hunter!
@Steve-O:
About the time investment: kind of true. It's not a game that you can sit down with for 15 minutes and get anything out of, unless it's something super basic. A hunt tends to take a half hour or so if it's a monster that you haven't killed before. Right now I am downning Qurpeco, the first real monster, in about 7 or 8 minutes.
There are friend codes, but there are also lobbies. Which is good and bad. The online interface has a lot of flaws, but considering in the past I have gone to friends' houses and gotten in a room with 3 other dudes with PSPs, it's not all that bad to me.
As for the controls, the wiimote and nunchuck work well. No problems there. I got the Classic controller Pro because it is more like the controls of the past Monster Hunter games. It's what I know so it's what I prefer, but the standard controls are fine too.

I got it downloaded, I'll give a whirl but I'm thinking I wont have the time to get the most out of this game.

Re: Monster Hunter!
I don't think the time commitment is any worse than your average RPG. Then again, I'm the one always telling people that recommend me RPGs that I don't have the time to play them.

One of my friends informed me yesterday that Monster Hunter: Frontier, formerly a PC only Japanese only MH game, is being released in Japan on Xbox 360 next month. Seeing as how Japan already has a PC version of this game and care about the 360 less than either of the other consoles, I can only assume (and hope) that means it is coming to the U.S. eventually.
Which means the online capabilities will be infinitely better. And that is an exciting prospect. Color me excited!
In the meantime I will be playing Monster Hunter Tri.
