Outrun for SMS

In Outrun there is no true substitute for knowing the course, as it only takes a couple of crashes to render your game over. But a couple of tips might still help:

* Generally, the goals relate to their overall difficulty. A is the easiest and requires you to take all the left forks. E is the hardest and requires you to take all the right forks. The others are in between.

* Pay attention to the course signs, they offer clues as to when to slow down. If you're already in the middle of a turn and a sign shows the same direction (ex. left turn, left arrow), the turn is suddenly going to become a lot sharper and you should be ready to let go of the gas and tap the brake if you need to. The same goes for any zigzag signs, at least one part of the S curve will force you to slow down.

* Change gears at around the 160 km/h mark for the fastest acceleration at the start. This can also get you get back going quickly should you crash.

* Other cars sometimes have a way of being in front of you at very inopportune times, such as just before an S curve. Since bumping cars will knock you off to the side and possibly force a crash, be ready to let up on the gas and either let them get ahead of you a bit or just get clear of them. Losing a couple of seconds to a speed reduction is easier to make up than the 5-7 seconds you stand to lose to a crash (getting put back on the course and getting back up to speed).

One final thing to remember is that if you find a route that you're comfortable with, don't be afraid to stay with it. I have three 20+mil point runs on RU to my credit now and they have been all on the C goal, running a route of left-right-left-right on the forks.
