Re: Martial arts movies
Like that has ever been a problem for the people who love to remake/reboot. I wouldn't even be surprised if they went with a white dude and spun it as a "modern retelling" or something.

Re: Martial arts movies
Not exactly a martial arts movie, but I saw 13 Assassins last night, the new Takashi Miike joint. Started kind of slow but got pretty awesome. I liked it a lot. Seemed like a story Kurosawa would tell.

Where did you see 13 Assassins? I'm still waiting for it to come out on DVD in Netflix.

Saw it at a movie theater that shows independent films and artsy/foreign junk and what have you.

Re: Martial arts movies
Not so much a fan of martial arts movies to be honest, samurai movies on the other hand, I like.
That said, there are martial arts movies I enjoy, things like Enter the Dragon and Drunken Master. Nothing but the really mainstream ones, I guess.

Re: Martial arts movies
It's not usually associated with martial arts but Samurai is part of it. Most people just don't understand what martial arts means.

If that's the case, this thread needs more Yojimbo.

Re: Martial arts movies
Bring it on if it's good. Since I posted that I looked it up and wikipedia says martial arts means "arts of war" so technically we could post stuff like this, which I think fits the title of arts of war pretty well-

It's an artistic depiction of a historical battle. I think it's comparable to martials arts movies and how they are unlike the practical application of karate or drunken boxing.

Three awesome fights in one video. It's awesomer because you don't usually see Muay Tai in big budget martial arts movies.

Unk Bak was an awesome movie. Part two and three weren't as good, but I saw them anyways. I wonder if Tony Jaa has done anything new lately...

I haven't seen any of them, but I've seen just about all the fight scenes. Is the filler story worth it?

Re: Martial arts movies
The first one is acceptable, but all the fight scenes more than make up for it. They even have a motor cart chase in it!

Yojimbo is an awesome movie.

I like how the bad guy has a gun.

For those who don't know, Yojimbo was remade as a western, Fistful of Dollars. Ramon is the equivalent of the gun wielding bad guy.

Re: Martial arts movies
Nice one! I'll be looking out for that one when it comes out.
I finally saw 13 Assassins. All I can say is that it's a must see film. It's the Rise of Planet of the Apes of samurai movies.

I recently watched a portion of Ninja Assassin, the fights were pretty cool and well put together.
