Good point.
I should have said it's a good thing that she got her unit, but instead I chose to make fun of the situation.

It's really nice of the company to have helped her out.
Chalk one up for Nintendo?

Re: Nintendo cares
Yeah, but then they also got all this free "positive press" which is far more valuable than one DS.
That's cool if the little girl was for real, but I doubt Nintendo did this out of the goodness of their hearts.

Sorry Joz. I guess I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today.
Don't get me wrong, it's still really cool for the little girl. I just always question things like this when it seems like it's a publicity stunt. I take it a lot more seriously when organizations get involved with things like the Make-A-Wish foundation and similar programs.
Still a cool story, though.

Re: Nintendo cares
Well I didn't mean that you are a downer directly WB. It's just that the truth sucks most of the time. It probably was a legit letter from a little girl, and Nintendo took the opportunity to do something nice and get some good PR just for giving out one DS.

Re: Nintendo cares
That's pretty neat, but Winnebagel may be right, it could be Nintendo trying to create positive press.

I think what they do shouldn't be minimized too much, though. It's still cool. I was just saying both parties would benefit in a case like this.

Re: Nintendo cares
The positive press idea is not whats going on here, for one, there were no guarantees this story was going to make it out of the classroom, and this was not a promotion, a girl wanted to play the great games on the ds so they helped her out.
Side note: I purposely titled the thread "Nintendo cares" figuring someone would bite, I didnt think it would be you though WB.

If this was the case why do we not hear of this kinda thing more often?

I didn't realize where the story came from Steven. I thought it was some press story. I saw the letter you attached, but I assumed it was a story released to the press by way of Nintendo.
If it was the little girl who released the story, then that's much cooler.

Re: Nintendo cares
I'm not trying to suggest that Nintendo won't also benefit from this, I mean the girl is going to buy all those great games eventually right? But I do like to think that customer satisfaction was the driving force behind the donation.

Re: Nintendo cares
if you read the headers, you will realize that this story took place in australia. those people are crazy anyways.
i'm not convinced it was for postive press, like nintendo needs any of that. the story is not listed on nintendo australia's news page

I did see that.
My question is where did the story come from in general? There was no link which is what made me assume that it was some kind of Nintendo press thing. If it wasn't then it's cool. It's cool either way actually b/c the little kid got a DS.

Re: Nintendo cares
Nintendo certainly cares about me sending stuff in, I sent in a DS 3 times (all times the DS would freeze frequently) and the Wii 1 time (Wouldn't read Brawl or the Prime trilogy) Didn't have to pay a penny to send them in.

Re: Nintendo cares
I had to write a letter to Nintendo, and I asked for a shirt or something, it was LE so I couldn't get one, but I got a pic of Link from Zelda with the Zelda team signed it.

Re: Nintendo cares
Big N does a lot of little things like that. They certainly have the cash to do so.
A teacher who has a class of autistic children wrote a letter to NoA. N actually sent down the voice actor of Mario to spend the whole day with the class. I guess it was a surprise to the class as Big N only talked it over with the principal and they kept it secret to the rest of the school.
Big N never told a soul about it afterwards either as far as I know. The only reason I know of it is because the teacher contacted a blog and they interviewed her about it.
If for no other reason, N created 9 more die hard, life-long fans that day.

That is cool. I didn't know the big N did those kinds of things. That makes me respect them more. Pretty cool.
