Red Dead Redemption
Yeah, so everyone should just do themselves the favor and go ahead and get this game. Especially if you like sandbox games. Made by Rockstar, it plays similar to GTA, but without a lot of the absolute ridiculousness of GTA. Probably the best game I've played so far this year.

I'm gonna borrow it, I'm cheap like that unless the game is really worth it.

Re: Red Dead Redemption
I absolutely love Westerns, and Western games, so I generally have to pick-up every one. I got RDR last week and started it last night. I haven't played a whole lot yet, but it's already awesome.
@ Jim, did you play Red Dead Revolver? It wasn't really sandbox, but it was awesome.

Cool concept. I would play if it was 2D.
What happens if you just ride north for ever? Hit an impassable mountain?

I haven't been able to ride that far yet. The map is immense. I bet it's like Elder Scrolls, though, where you hit mountains and invisible walls. Still a huge terrain though.

Kong has motion sickness on 3D games.

yes or some other kind of natural barrier. i prefer that more than hitting an invisible wall.
@bagel, no, i had never heard of it until you mentioned it.
@kong, definately not for you, i get a little loopy when spinning in a circle in that game.

it will probably take 30 - 40 hours for so to 100% this bad boy. the multiplayer is really good though. i got really bored with gta IV multiplayer at a few games, but the level up/xp system adds a lot to gameplay to the multiplayer.

I wonder why? Run around mindlessly shooting some morons while they spout the most racist, homophobic stuff I've heard on xbox live. No goals and no accomplishment. Maybe it got better but I played it for like an hour and got tired of it.
I did have fun playing chicken with a car full of people though. I was on a motorcycle and I tried to jump off right as they passed me so I could shoot the car. My timing was off and I ended up faceplanting on the grill. We all laughed but it did hurt my pride a little
So what is the multiplayer like in RDR?

Re: Red Dead Redemption
it is similar to gta, it has free roam mode which you can run around the entire map (which is huge...probably 2x the size of the gta san andreas map) and kill people if you want. doing so will get you a wanted level. you can also go after gang hideout alone or with friends or strangers. it isn't like a mmo, there is a limit to 16 in a free roam at a time.
there are several multiplayer games, tdm, capture the flag, free for all, a game mode called gold rush (collect points by grabbing gold bags and returning them) and another mode similar to sabotage on cod.
the leveling system is kind of like cod. you get experience for everything, plus there are unique challenges, weapons, hunting, and so on.
the coolest part of is the start of any game, it always begins with a mexican standoff.
i'll check with my brother and see if he still has it, but on gta IV, he had a capture card and we made two clips. one was me jumping off of the brooklyn bridge onto the hood of the cop car, from his pov...in the cop car. the other we called the last boy scout. he jumped off one of the amusement park rides into a helicopter propeller to hilarious results.

Re: Red Dead Redemption
Yeah I might end up buying this soon. I see most of my friends list playing so I'll have plenty of people to play it with, for at least a week or two until they get bored and move onto the next big game.

Looks cool. The western theme kills it for me though.

Re: Red Dead Redemption
Yeah, the Western theme is the only reason I bought it at all. I am so sick of the whole GTA thing I will probably never play another one, but the West rocks.

In terms of it being Sandbox yes, but because it's a western the whole dynamic is different.
I am sick of the stories in GTA. It seems like each one gets progressively worse b/c everything is contemporary, and also each one gets more and more PC.
It's just preference really, but would rather play a Western or Medieval game over a contemporary gang/crime game any day.

How so? Is the core gameplay still the same? Either way I'll play it and probably love it, I just wanna hear if it's worth me buying it.

Yeah, just never was into the whole "Old West" theme. Books, movies, any of it. The same reason I'll skip Red Steel 2.

Re: Red Dead Redemption
Glad I didn't purchase this game, it's poor. Played it on a friend's console and for this generation, it's pretty poor. Like GTA, it has clunky controls, the graphics are poor, and lip synchronization is poor too.
It's like a western version of GTA III. Rockstar could have improved with this, and what's with the glitches? Had long enough to develop the game, and they even postponed it for improvements.

Sounds like a nice addition, but I meant along the lines of the less entertaining glitch where I was transported above the map and dropped like a ragdoll. Maybe God was angry.

Re: Red Dead Redemption
Well glitches can be patched. Besides the graphics thing are the controls any worse than GTA4? I don't mind how GTA4 played and if RDR is similar it won't be a deal breaker for me.

I've got this game, but I have yet to play it. I was too busy playing Heavy Rain, but I just finished it so this is probably next on my list.

I think the controls are better than GTA4. One of the reasons is the aim is easier, as the Dead Eye aim (from RDR 1) which helps enormously in aiming.

Re: Red Dead Redemption
I read that they have a full auto aim enabled in multiplayer. People on the Xbox forums were complaining about noobs spamming respawns by just pulling the trigger, no aiming needed. How true is that?
