Re: Portal is free
It's an awesome, awesome first-person shooter by Valve (they've done Half-Life, Counter-Strike and Team Fortress 2), though it's closer in mood to the Metroid Prime games.
Essentially, you become this test subject in some facility and are given a weapon called the portal gun, which fires blue and orange portals; you go in the orange one, you come out the blue, and vice versa. It can't be used to directly attack anything (not that there's a whole lot of things to be attacked), but instead, you have to use the objects around you to complete tasks and such. All the while, there's this AI named GLaDOS who's watching you and occasionally taunts you, like a kinder, gentler SHODAN (System Shock 2).
Anyway, it's a lot better than I can make it sound; it's a short game (maybe two hours), but it's awesome to play through. Also, it's free, so it's not like you're losing anything by trying it out.
