Remember playing edutainment games in the computer lab at your elementary school? It was better than lunch, better than physical education, and more fun than recess. Apple II’s loaded with educational software disguised as entertainment: these are what defined our formative years. We didn’t realize it at the time, but it was these simple titles that made us into the gamers and lovers of new tech that we are today. That’s why we’re taking a time out to take a trip down memory lane to take closer look at the most memorable edutainment games of all time...

Oregon Trail, Carmen Sandiego and Number Munchers were the best. I also remember a REALLY old school game where you were a rabbit.

I don't remember what the object was, but it was similar to Pac Man if I recall, and had some sort of educational quality.

I remember a really old edutainment game that was used in my elementary school(so in the early-mid 80s). It must've been on an Apple since we had those donated to us. I remember it was some problem solving game where you had to explore a house of some kind. It was like 2-3 colors and the one character I remember was a guy but he had some shark like features or his name was something to do with a shark.

I would've posted it in the remember a game section but I'm not looking to play it again. I just figure this might be a good spot in case one of you old farts played it.

Other than that Carmen Sandiego and Oregon Trail were awesome. Oh and we have one of them on RU now on the Amiga-

When I was a wee lad it was all about Math Blaster and Reader Rabbit. Oregon Trail and Number Munchers were still awesome of course.

Math Blaster? That game was pretty fun when I was a kid, yet somehow I am still terrible at math.

I remeber that Rabbit game too! But im afraid I cant recollect it wither...But as far as Oregon Trail...I forgot all about that game until I read your post....In elementary that game was amazing...I looked forward to oregon trail so much back then.....Def Good times

Whenever I tell non-gamers about RU they always ask about Organ Trail. I've never played it myself.

I certainly wouldnt mind giving that game(Oregon Trail) a go. I think it would be interesting to see how different I view it now as an adult. Wish I knew how to make Flash Games...That would be one I would try to make

Shoots man, my parents took my porn stash one time when I was like 17 and they kept it. I found it a few years back under their bed when I was looking for a pair of my old man's boots to wear. So they might be.

I remember this one i played in elementary, called paws typing ( i think). Anyway, it was about typing whats on screen, as fast and accurately as possible. The fun part was after typing though, you got to play a minigame afterwards, where your score in the typing part affected how much you could do in the game. Like one of the games was skee ball, where if you got a better score on typing you would get more trys in the game. I enjoyed the game, but i sucked at typing as a kid, and i never did finish ALL the lessons.
