you tube videos and editing
hey guys I have been attempting to make some videos on a few topics including how to use 3ds max 3d modeling software to how to make game genie codes. but the problem that I am having is they are all over 10 mins long and cant be uploaded to you tube.
the main issue I am having is when I split the video into smaller chunks it seems to compress my videos making them blurry and you cant read anything on the screen
I used camstudio to record my videos and I recorded them at the size of my screen
and when I play the original save video with windows media player the video looks clean and crisp but when I try to split the video the quality drops drasically.
I have tried splitting the video with adobe after effects as well as windows movie maker and I get the same issue with both.
anyone know what I am doing wrong? can I not record at full screen? if not what size video should I record at.

Re: you tube videos and editing
Are the original videos .avi files? If they are you can use the program VirtualDub to cut them apart with no compression, it's what I use on all of my youtube videos.
If not, then on Windows Movie Maker, when you hit "Publish movie,", when it asks where you want to publish, pick My Computer, then choose the directory, then on the next window, DO NOT pick "Best quality playback for my computer", that is a lie.
Check the "More Settings" bullet, and pick "Windows Media HD 720p". If you have a better computer or are willing to wait pick the 1080p option instead.
Then grab a coke, and do something else because it will take a while. But it should work. However, the VirtualDub option is preferred.

Re: you tube videos and editing
LOL XD.
I see what you mean.
It sounds like that guy used a external microphone to capture his sound, or his video encoder really, really, sucks.
Also, using external programs to record from other programs (i.e. Hypercam in that case) is not very good, I've used Camstudio before and the sound always gets out of sync with the video.
Most emulators will dump movie files with video and audio combined.
Or, you can get a real recording device, like a Dazzle card or Pinnacle Studio Box, I use a BlackMagic Intensity Pro card to get my videos off of consoles.
For example here's one of my videos.

Also to oasis, this video, which is composed of many different clips, was stitched together using Windows Movie Maker, so you can use this to help you decide what to do.

Re: you tube videos and editing
No, all of the games are recorded off of the console, Gamecube, Playstation 2, and Wii games are from the real system, all other systems are Wii Virtual Console emulation.
The videos are recorded on a BlackMagic Intensity Pro card (as seen in the title and the box in the beginning). The 25 individual clips were edited on my favorite .avi video editor, VirtualDub. Then they were encoded with Windows Media Player at 1280x720 resolution, and stitched together with Windows Movie Maker.
Usually I don't do the Windows Movie Maker step, but since all of the games ran at different resolutions I couldn't put them together in VirtualDub, so I had to use that.
Thanks for the compliment on the high quality. =).

Re: you tube videos and editing
@seahawk thanks I will try virtualdub.
@sound questions. when I made my walkthrough for super c the sound got way off as well but there was a option in hypercam to sync audio to video and it fixed it right up.

*Update* VirtualDub was a breeze to use simple fast and effective. thanks again seahawk

Re: you tube videos and editing
Edit them as raw AVI. If you accidently recorded the vids in some codec like the cam studio codec (which is selected by default I think) then your going to be FREEZING DINNER / UNTHAWING / FREEZING /UN THAWING/ until you get a mush of multimedia.
Basically keep it all RAW AVI.
Or use VIRTUALDUB to edit the stuff you already compressed.

Re: you tube videos and editing
Fungus is correct, .avi is the best format for movie editing with any program. It is pure raw uncompressed video footage. It's only disadvantage is that it takes A LOT of disk space, but hard drive space is super cheap these days.
