I am currently working on the next version of ArcadeOX.
Please post feature requests and comments here. Also if you can afford to make a donation to this cause
please do so.
Planned additions for version 2.
- Run DOS games like Quake and older PC games.
- Use the Programs Folder instead of the Temp folder to prevent files disappearing and make it easier to access save states and other files.
- Make it easy to open the arcadeox file so you can make back ups of save states.
- Display the size of the arcadeox temp folder as it can get very big and you might want to monitor the size and clear out games you wont play again.
- Improve downloader. Include progress bar and resume support so you can run files that are over 100MB.
- Improve sandbox. More on this below.
- Allow other websites to use ArcadeOX. More below.
1-4 are mostly complete already.
Things that might be added after these items are finished.
- Improve installer
- Back save states up online.
Sandbox
In computer terms a sandbox means that a program is blocked off from the rest of your computer. A program ran inside a good sandbox can not access any part of your computer except itself. That means if you run a program that contains a virus from inside a sandbox then you would not be infected and would remain safe. The current version of ArcadeOX already does this to an extent but before I can allow other sites access to use ArcadeOX I have to make this feature extremely solid and robust and do lots of testing and hire other programmers to double check my work. Which is expensive.
After the sandbox is finished you will be able to run a file infected with a virus from your email or other websites inside the arcadeox sandbox and even though you ran a file with a virus your computer will not be infected. There are other sandboxes that already exist for just this purpose, all I would be doing is combining their functionality with arcadeox for added protection. This is to allow you to be safe running arcadeox games from any website.
Other sites.
In version 2 when a site tries to launch an arcadeox game you will be asked if you want to allow that site to use arcadeox, yes, no, always, never.
