bugs

so last night i went to have a shower and in my shower i saw one of these:

i was pretty freaked out because i grew up on the east coast and we didnt have those there. this thing was huge too, at least 3 inches long counting the legs and stuff, luckily i just went and got my cats and they gobbled him up. the only centipedes ive ever seen are these:

do you guys have any weird bugs where you live? (please post pics)

Yeah, I've seen those before, gave me the willies.

For some reason (it been explained to me its geographical) we have a very large abundance of spiders where I live. Besides that we have the Spiney Assassin Bug:

I have seen all sorts of crazy bugs in BC, one is this weird red shiny bug I only ever saw once when digging for worms for fishing

I've also seen this in my tent at the lake

BC also has a lot of these

I also saw one of these on the stairwell of my school.

I hate bugs, just thinking about them makes me feel like I have them crawling all over me.

strange how the ecology can change drastically over relativly small distances, for instance i grew up in moncton and all we ever had for slugs where these:

then i moved just 300 km south and started seeing these:

those were huge and i was blown away.
another thing that was new in halifax that was cool to see where these:

i never saw an actual slug with a shell before, (or snail or whatever)

slugs have a high water content to their body weight, plus there skin is very permeable. when salt gets on a slug, water is pulled out of their body due to osmosis, the water is absorbed by the salt, thus resulting in rapid dehydration.

Yep, we have them a lot here in the midwest. They're actually good for your house because they eat all the other bugs that like to make your house home and they are of no harm to humans..

Don't forget cockroaches and fleas. Most other bugs are only harmful if they eat your food, although spider webs can be a nuisance.

What exactly counts as a bug, anyway?

Well, off the top of my head I can't really think of anything that I would be unsure of.

A bug is a bothersome, unwanted pest
which gets in your hair or crawls on your chest
It may be just me but I think it best
to smash them before they set up a nest!

I get bugs around my place all the time, inside and out; some are worse than others.
The ones that freak me out the most are silverfish:

... and now after reading the entry for them, they freak me out even more

- it says they live 2 - 8 YEARS.
Despite several full - scale assaults on their known hangouts

I have yet to make any progress toward their removal, and that entry explains why.

2 -8 YEARS?!!!

Mice don't even live that long!
Sorry but that's just messed up on some serious level in my opinion.

Usually not much, though they will eat and cause damage to books, paper, and some fabrics.They like moist areas and are usually found in bathrooms and basements.

Good news though, those house caterpillars we talked about earlier will eat them and keep them in check!
