Kinect
Microsoft is releasing Project Natal next year. It is a motion sensor to compete with the Wiimote. Sony is releasing something similar too.

Am I the only one that thinks this looks like a lame novelty that would be boring after a month.

re: Kinect
I think it might be interesting for certain games, but I would want to play everything that way. If they can fully realize it, it would be very nice for some things, but not as a complete replacement for the controller.

re: Kinect
i cant help but to laugh when an xbox fanboy mentions this.
1. they arent going to steal the wii's demographic
2. of the xbox's top 10 best selling games, none of them can take advantage
3. if they did put all their eggs into this basket, they could do crippling damage to themselves
4. i wouldnt be suprised if we never even see it hit the shelves
ive been following the industry long enough to know this will not be successful, and based on microsofts track record it probably wont even work well

If only they had a way to combine the two that might be something.

re: Kinect
I meant as in how it claims to do something amazing but it's appears it will fall very short of its promises.
Look more closely at the video. All the motions the actors are performing are very broad and sweeping. I don't think, or at least they haven't shown, that Natal is able to detect small, precise movements.

re: Kinect
I knew what you meant. I was just joking. I know you meant something that could fail as epically as the Virtual Boy.
Still if the tech could advance far enough, it might be fun to see something combine VR (not red horrible VR) with motion sensors.

No worries Tenser. That's my bad. I'm sleepy today. It's true, your post does make more sense as a reply to Cam. Now I'm back off to...

re: Kinect
Speaking of Virtual Boy, I've heard microsofts next console might be a virtual reality helmet... of course I just remember seeing it and have no backup source... In any case, I'm not really into buying new consoles so I could care less...

There was also supposedly a Wii 2 coming out. Named just that. But it is probably just a hoax. It was supposed to be the same as the Wii with enhanced graphics, but that's all.
Also, I don't really care about Microsoft and their X-Box series. They just never pulled me in. Their games are just not my style. Plus their controllers are confusing to me. Pretty much, give me an X-Box or PlayStation controller and...

Do you get robbed a lot? If my doors were locked, I wouldn't mind playing a bit of VR if the tech was good enough.

re: Kinect
Canadia has yet to invent the lock. Only the wealthy can afford security by way of mounties riding bears and wielding hockey sticks.
@SSB: The rumor is that the Wii2 will finally be HD. Not that it matters since Nintendo isn't competing against anyone.

+1 for the sheer quality of the visual that that created in my mind.
@ Steven, are you serious? Is Canada really that safe, or is it just the region you are in? There are parts of the U.S. that are still pretty safe, but I think door locking happens in most places now except maybe in places with rural like Kansas.

re: Kinect
I rarely lock my doors. I find keys annoying. I have lived in places in the US where other people also don't lock their doors.
One time my car window was broken. After spending a couple hundred dollars to replace it I put a sign on the car that said "Door unlocked, please don't break window."
The PlayStation one looks to be more precise than the Wii and Xbox.
When they do come out I will be making a special trip to Best Buy to play the demos but I just think after an hour the novelty will wear off and everyone will want their money back. I do think that first hour will be cool though.
Xbox looks like they are copying this game [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6--62V7UOao"]YouTube - virtual soccer game[/ame]
It has been at every science museum I have ever been to.

That's pretty cool. I don't think I have enough confidence where I live, as my area has had multiple break-ins as it is.

re: Kinect
It's actually dangerous here now, it never was, but now that their finishing the LRT that goes around edmonton, were getting a lot of crime, our street was targetted alone for about a week, there was 31 break-ins on cars on our street... our street had it's own personal cop for a bit there... we haven't had any issues since nor should we since we have a security alarm sign outside (Touch Wood).
