Secret of Evermore

I love this game. It's basically a spiritual successor to secret of mana with a time-travel story line and a dog companion, and I like it even better than mana. Anyway, you guys should check it out.

Not exactly since all the worlds are connected on one map (well two since you go into space) and later on you can travel to any of them at any time. The finding/purchasing of ingredients for your spells was a very cool idea as well. Not as good as Secret of Mana but still a must play for the SNES.

Re: Secret of Evermore

The only thing I dislike is that they attempted to capitalize on Secret of Mana's success by insinuating that it was it's sequel.

It was a sequel with it's gameplay, but not story. I actually prefer this to Mana because I like the story better and I love the alchemy system.

Re: Secret of Evermore

It wasn't a sequel in either way.

Final Fantasy 2 was the sequel to Final Fantasy and they had different worlds.

Secret of Mana is actually the sequel to Seiken Densetsu. The actual sequel to Secret of Mana is Seiken Densetsu 3. It can be played here.

Retro Uprising - Arcade - Secret of Mana 0 - Seiken Densetsu 3

Re: Secret of Evermore

speaking of final fantasy, i've played a lot of them and they are never really sequels, the stories never continue and the characters are always different. there may be an exception or two if you count final fantasy x and final fantasy x-2.

Re: Secret of Evermore

When I use the term sequel, I mean as it is the next in line in a series. I'm not intending that more restrictive definition of a direct continuation of plot.

Re: Secret of Evermore

@Justin: Those are all direct sequels. An example is that FFIV: The After Years is the direct sequel to FFIV.

Re: Secret of Evermore

i obviously have been out of the loop cause i never heard of them. what systems are they for? if they're on portable stuff like the ds or the psp that would explain it too. my main point was, final fantasy 1-12 are not direct sequels of each other. I wasn't really counting spin offs. LOL, I noticed one mentioned Dirge of Cerberus, which is supposed to be a sequel to FF7, but it really sucked and wasn't even an RPG.

from my understanding

ff VII had a whole crap load of spin offs advent children(movie)
crisis core (psp)
dirge of cerberus (ps2)

now as far as when the game takes place i think it goes

crisis core
FF VII
advent children
dirge of cerberus

so........... if you only played dirge of cerberus and FF VII then you might be lost, but i dont like dirge of cerberus either

Re: Secret of Evermore

no i seen advent children too, but again i am talking direct sequels, not spin offs, spin offs don't count in my opinion. let me break it down. ff2 has nothing to do with 1, 3 has nothing to do with 2 and so on. that's what i was getting at. the only real similarity that i can tell is there is a cid in damn near every game.

Re: Secret of Evermore

The only game that is a sequel in my book is X-2, and I didn't really like that one. I have no idea why After Years wasn't called IV-2, but I consider it a spin off.

Re: Secret of Evermore

How is After Years a spin-off? All your main characters are still there and playable. It takes place after its predecessor.

Re: Secret of Evermore

Dawn of Souls was a direct sequel to FFII.
You fight the Emperor (again) as the final boss.

And I agree with tenser, how isn't FFIV the After Years a direct sequel?

@ Justin there are chocobos and moogles in almost every game.
and theres FFVII: Before Crisis but, that isn't an RPG either.
