Laptop Suggestions?

So, I want to buy a laptop for college next year. However, I don't know what to get.:confused: Believe it or not, I don't really want a mac; i'm pretty content with windows and it just seems simpler to stick with it. I'm looking for something that would be good for writing/storing papers, playing games, storing pics, wi-fi, etc.; basically, just something you'd find on a regular desktop (it doesn't have to be top of the line or anything).
If anyone has suggestions about brands or anything, that would be awesome!

By the way, I really don't want a dell (bad experience with it).

decent speed, storage, and video card.
Comes with office for students trial, so you'd either need to drop another $150 (i think) to register it or just download OpenOffice from sun microsystems (my suggestion)

I'll let you know what I think when I get it.

ok so i've whittled it down to two basically identical laptops (inboth specs and price) from sony and hp. does anyone have any opinions about these two brands in terms of customer support, quality, etc.?

I have a Sony. After 2 months the hard drive went bad. Best Buy and Sony were happy to fix it free of no charge (under warranty of course). Best buy took care of all the shipping/paper work, and I had my laptop back within a matter of days. A year later, I am very satisfied with my Sony, and have had no other problems.
