3DO, Jaguar or TG16?

I'm looking for a good older console and so far I'm leaning towards getting an Atari Jaguar. But I Know I would like to own these 3 consoles I'm just not sure which one would suit me best, What's the pros and cons of each console?

Cam, for my money, I would suggest either a TG-16 or a 3DO. The Jaguar is okay, but it doesn't really have all that many great games IMHO (or that many games in general to be honest). Both the TG-16 and 3DO have a large library of quality titles. If you have the opportunity to pick-up a TG-16 CD add on then you would have access to a huge number of great games.

Here are the lists of games for each system. Maybe this will help you decide. In addition to having good shooters, TG-16 also had some very good RPG's (i.e. the Y's series):

when you say shooters you mean games like gradius and earth defence force right?

Winnebagel which system has the best racers because that checkered flag game looks pretty good.

Edit: okay, You said that you can burn games for 3DO correct kong?

The guy at the shop has:

3 TG16's 35$
1 3DO 70$
6 Jaguars 45$
3 Jaguar cd's 10$
2 Tg16CD's 35$
4 Amiga CD32's 65$
10 Neo Geos 40$

do any of these systems allow you to burn games like Dreamcast?

Cam, some of my favorite games on Jag are "Alien vs Predator", "Total Carnage" (the pseudo sequel to Smash TV) , "Raiden" and maybe "Highlander". They were all decent games on Jaguar IMHO. The main problem on the system is that there just weren't very many games released for it because 3rd Party Support fell apart quickly on the system.

I have considered buying one myself, but I have just never been able to justify the shelf space it would take up to play just 3-5 games. It's all up to you of course, but that is my take on it.

I'm really not sure, I want a system with racers lots of racers, Preferably a system that allows you to burn the games and a game with some possible side scroller airplane shooters.

So let's throw Amiga and Neo Geo into this since I updated my post above^^^^
Which has these three traits? racers SSAP Shooters and possible burnable games?

The Amiga is one of my favorite consoles, but the best games were on the computer versus the video game machine (the Amiga CD32). The Amiga CD32 had very few games also. It had a few truly noteworthy titles like Battletoads, Alfred Chicken, James Pond, and The Lost Vikings, but as you can probably tell from the titles, most of these games were released on other systems.

As far as the Neo Geo, I highly recommend it if you like fighting games, action games, or space shooters. IMHO, some of the best games ever made are for the Neo Geo. The thing you have to decide is whether you want to get the cartridge system or the CD system (there is also the MVS system, but it is fairly complex to use). The systems all mostly feature the same games with each of the systems having their own few exclusive games. The cheaper route is to go with the Neo Geo CD as titles are pretty cheap if you want the originals or you can go another route possibly to obtain games. The only drawback many people complain about is the Neo Geo CD has some lengthy loading times in many of the games. I myself opted to buy a Neo Geo CDZ which loads games a bit faster than the regular Neo Geo CD. The cartridge system has no load times, but each cartridge is mammoth and pretty expensive to buy. If you like the types of games I mentioned though, the Neo Geo is an excellent purchase!

BTW, what shop is this? Is this in Canada? Those are some of the cheapest prices I have ever seen for many of the consoles you mentioned.

i dont think these systems are even available at any shop at all around here. and for the record cam, i wouldnt buy any of those systems:
all discontinued
probably dont work too well
finding games would be a pain in the butt
wouldnt play them even if i had them

now i know you are a collector so they do have value to you, so just get them all over time

I doubt it's in america, It's just this shop me and my brother go to called "Action Exchange" and yes those are the prices of course but I've had comments that this was too much:

1 Dremcast console
2 DC controllers
1 VMU
1 Game (Sonic Adventure)

The guy was asking me and my brother for 150 bucks but we ended up with it for 115 bucks but steven thought that was too much

In any case I would prefer like I have said a system that lets me burn games, So this implies cd's I guess, But I did go to youtube to find some reviews on Jaguar and it does have some games that interest me.

I'm really just torn, I need peoples opinions on these, I already have laserboys no go on the jaguar but that's it, Here is a clear list of what I'd like but don't set this in stone

1. Burnable games (If possible)
2. Racing games
3. Good Fps's like wolfenstein
4. Adventure/Platformer
5. Quality over Quantity

... ... ... ... What does everyone reccomend I'm torn, If 3DO does not have burnable games then it's slashed off the list since the store has 2 games that aren't good

Every other console has at least 17 games.

Edit: Sorry Steven didn't see your post, Yes I'm a collector, A collector of good consoles, I don't spend too much time playing games in my life but mainly in the winter I get really bored and I usually Like a good game preferably 16- 64 bit games.

From what I have heard, 3DO has this option, but I have just recently received my system, so I haven't gotten much for it yet.

If you're looking for an huge impact into your library go with the 3DO. All the games were put on straight CDs. Meaning you can download any game, burn it on a plain CDR and it will play. Also, there's no regional lock out.

If you have an option, go with the Panasonic FZ-10 model.

In my opinion, 3DO or Neo Geo CD have the most bang for the buck and are "must have" purchases for hard core retro gamers.

The only problem with Neo Geo is the guy at the store turned me away from them because he said they weren't reliable... I think that was Neo Geo CD actually

Thanks for the reccomendations I'd still like to know what each console is based off of in more description though, But 3DO or Neo Geo Is probably the way to go, I still haven't heard anything about Amiga though...

Cam, reread post # 8. I talk about the Amiga CD32.

The main Neo Geo CD unit that is known to fail is the front loading tray system design. I have had my top loading Neo Geo CD and my Neo Geo CDZ for about 8 years with no problems (other than the CDZ's lid pin busting so the system lid would not stay down).

You ultimately have to make that decision Cam, but if I had $215.00 to spend on just gaming related stuff, I would probably do something like the following:

$70.00 for the 3DO
$70.00 for the TG-16/TG-16 CD
$40.00 for the Neo Geo CD
$20.00 to get a bunch of CD-R's if you're going to burn some games.

That would leave you $15.00 left which you could spend on whatever else you want like TG-16 games (on cards which can't be burned)

By the way, does the guy at the stores let you test the systems to see if they work or give any kind of warranty against defects?

uhh yes... I've only Ever bought the following there but he gave us a year warranty on the dreamcast and game cartiges were just If they don't work bring them back and he let us test the dreamcast there:

SVR 2007 (360)
Sonic Adventure (DC)
Shemue (DC)

Italicized items are ones that were either bought by my brother or joined buy.
