Side scroller shooter reccomendations

I'm a big fan of side scroller airplane shooters like gradius, Any suggestions as to games like gradius and Earth Defence Force?

Edit: I don't like the vertical shooters though.

Cam I forgot to mention, U.N. Squadron <- Most agree this is the best 2D airplane shooter along with Gradius 3.
