Silent Hill: Homecoming problem
First of all, I like Silent Hill: Homecoming, I found it to be a big leap in the series after the third one gave a bad taste in my mouth. But I wanted to rant about a little problem I had.
But why is it that I'm stuck since I got it, at the first boss, unable to kill it. I have no health drinks or anything, there aren't any around, and I have about half my health. I refuse to replay THE ENTIRE GODDAMN HOTEL from a previous save almost an hour away or more, simply to beat a boss.
I'm sorry, I like a challenge, but this is unheard of. I never once got stuck like this in ANY survival horror game. Why are there NO health pickups, fixes, or ANYTHING to provide even the SLIGHTEST assistance in moving on already. Seriously...I've done this fight over 40 times now, I can't win.
The boss drops, and slays me in seconds. It doesn't help either that while the combat works for the most part, it DOESN'T when the boss is 3 times the size of you and it's attacks are like instant death most times, since if you fall down, and DON'T instantly get up, you will be raped.
More so, when I DID last attempt to go back and replay to that point, I was doing fine, and got to the part with a nurse, killed my light and snuck up on someone, and SLAMED that axe into her head. The game went nuts apparently, and looped her slicing me, and in horror at 2 am, having started at 12, I was dead in 20 seconds.
I love the Silent Hill games, but I think this one is just too hard for it's own good. I like being scared...but WHY must I suffer for a problem in the GAME, and it IS the games fault because the save points and items to restore health are so piss poorly distanced, it makes it IMPOSSIBLE to do the old "backtrack just in case" trick without inducing a migrane from RANDOMLY SPAWNING CREATURES WITH HUGE KNIVES FOR HANDS AND LEGS, that can rape you easy if you don't fight them like it's an epic battle to the death.
So my question, is this worth it, should I keep trying, or just say stop. I seriously, have NEVER been this frustrated with a game, since my last outing with Bomberman Act Zero, in terms that, I feel the game is designed to personally piss me off, because when I feel I got it, and am comfortable, some stupid assine crap kills my buzz, like those Smog things that are IMPOSSIBLE to kill without wasting half a clip of ammo.
Sides "Silent Hill: Homecoming", I find I get stuck due to difficulty I can't match in A LOT of games, like DMC 4 which I never beat and felt like a idiot for buying thinking I could beat it. I still don't even know how I beat the original. Even DEAD SPACE had moments like this for me, and recently...every game I own enters this sort of dead zone where either I get sick of gameplay mechanics after a few days, bore of it entirely, or just get stuck and say "stop", then later return, do better for an hour, and then degrade back to suck factor.
Last time I checked I didn't suck at games, I just feel as if this latest gen isn't balanced well gameplay wise, and even in AITD, a favorite of mine, I experienced this syndrome multiple times, and it's grating on my last nerve when I see people just blaze past this crap, like it's not even a thing, where I literally have to fight tooth and nail with the controller and my reflexes to get anywhere.
Even Assassins Creed did this, and so bad in fact, I never bothered to finish it. I always wonder why I never continue with a whole slew of games, and the sad truth is, I can't even get past the first boss or beat a large majority of the games I own.
Now I'm not saying it's EVERY game, but it seems more and more, the more complex it gets, the more difficult, and the more annoying, the less I feel inclined to even bother. Even with a game I love like Resistance 2, it took me FOREVER to beat it due to one of the last levels and how damn difficult I found it.
Meanwhile, FEAR on the hardest difficulty doesn't faze me, Ninja Gaiden Sigma is a breeze and even if I die I have a blast, and something like Vampire Rain I found pretty damn intense, but easy to play through.
Though I've noticed, it's usually bosses that beat me up. I get up to a tough boss, die 30-40 times, and never touch a game again, or crawl back to it some 1-2 AM on a Saturday months later, and FINALLY beat said boss, and then I beat the game soon afterwards.
As I said, it's annoying me to death, because I buy A LOT of games, but I find I play few, and even in some games, like an RTS or strategy game, when it goes from simple to complex, I start losing interest. Like with Disgaea 3, I can't even bring myself to touch it. I feel like I'm getting a migraine with it, and others...because I know damn well I should be playing better then I am, and dying all the time, isn't factor form for this game. It's like something internal is dying in me, or my ability to game, is just flat out dissolving.
EVEN in Condenemend 2, the part where you need to disarm and throw those bombs, I kept losing there so much, and getting tired of repeating what I was doing, I literally just didn't play the game at all for a while. I went back and finally did it, but it took a MONTH to do that.
So yeah...comments if you want. I just felt I needed to get this out, before I wound up breaking my copy of Silent Hill: Homecoming, or sat in front of a game swearing up a storm of expletives so nasty, that I know I'm actually getting pissed off for real.
Oh and NO- Stepping away and coming back doesn't help. It's just more insulting when I lose, and last time that happened, I ripped the game disk out of the original Xbox so viciously, I also took out the cd tray in the process. I'm not looking to repeat this, but I mean...
COME ON, I know I don't suck, so are the games just really not balanced well, or is this a sign that...I'm getting old and can't do this well anymore?
Sorry for making you read all this, I just wanted to express my opinion.
