Final Fantasy
the final fantasy games are probably some of my most favorite games of all time. i'd probably have to say that my favorite so far is 8, though i'm still in the process of playing the other ones. i just recently got 7 and so far it's pretty good (supposedly it's supposed to be really really awesome)

Re: Final Fantasy
Ummm, if the franchise is called FINAL fantasy, how are all these sequels justified?

Re: Final Fantasy
@laser they really are not justified the are just new games using the same name
only final fantasy 7 has had some branch out direct sequals and in my oppinion they blow major ass
final fantasy X also tried to do a direct secqual in FFX-2 and that blew more ass then FF7 it did not even seem like a real final fantasy game
I agree that 7 is way over rated but the battle and level up system was revolutionary for its time with the materia system...
my personal favorites would go
FF3 american or FF6 japanese
FF8
FF9
FF2
FF7
FFX
FF12
FF
and never wanted to pay money to play FF11 even though I would call that a MMO rather than a true FF game...
oh also @laser its also justified because the religion of the game is useually the same throught all the games
they all mostly have a life stream and reason for things the way they are...

final fantasy will never end
and it does not matter what they call the last game
what will they call the last sonic or mario game
final fantasy in my oppinion is a franchise name just like mcdonalds
that is why they keep using it because the name sells itself

So you guys who like FF8, do you agree that the magic system was a joke in FF8? If not, why?

Oh please, I've been able to beat ALL of Final Fantasy 7 by only having Cloud alive and equipped with the best materia (except using Red XII, Cid, and Sephiroth for parts where Cloud is not available or in the flashback), FF7's magic system can be taken advantage of FAR to easily.
My experiences:
Last Final Fantasy 6 boss- Quite a bit of close calls through out the battles
Last Final Fantasy 7 boss- Cast Knights of the Round then cast Mime for 5 times, repeat about 3 times= Win

Re: Final Fantasy
So you're saying FF7 is easy when using the best items in the game? Wow really?
Does this mean it doesn't work in FF8?!?!?
What I was asking(btw you didn't really answer it) is how could anyone like the draw magic system from 8? It might've been a cool idea if it wasn't so limiting. To me it was an attempt to make the game last longer by forcing people to farm for magic. It's the main reason I quit playing the game about half way through.
I understand some people hate FF7 but it's combat system was so much better than 8. Can't really deny that.

See that's all I'm asking for.
I started out liking the game but this killed it for me. That and the lame male characters(besides Laguna and his merry men).
I like FF7 but I can admit it was far from perfect as well. That being said it's not a bad game in anyway. I've yet to hear a legit reason to dislike ff7. Well besides the people who played ff8 first and loved it. I can understand that because it's the same for me when it comes to games like E.T. If I played it as a kid I might've liked it, playing it once it was outdated really left a bad taste in my mouth.
Another good point about FF7, it caused a lot of people to try rpgs for the first time. This is true for a friend of mine and now he loves rpgs. That right there is a reason to say ff7 is awesome.

Re: Final Fantasy
I will admit I spent a very long time with FF7, but not for quite the right reason. Chocobo breading and racing killed weeks of my life. I would give up my entire game colection just to have a game based on that(though it would have to be much more advanced than FF7's version). Blitzball takes some time to learn and has to kind of grow on you, but for racing I was very quickly spending all of my gil.
And count, I myself have not played FF8 yet (unless you count a pizza hut demo way back when -_-'). Oh and your new game in a series thing reminds me how good I thought Revolution X was on the SNES. Geeze, I can't wait to be reminded of what it was really like when the update hits.

Re: Final Fantasy
I gotta say I'm shocked. I was all ready to get into another pointless debate about FF7,8 when drunkninja tossed me a curveball.
I also spent irrational amounts of time on chocobo side games. Did you like the golden saucer too? A couple of those games were actually cool.
Did you know that FF11 has chocobo raising and you can ride the bird once it's an adult? It also has racing but you don't get to actually race so it's dead in the water.
Btw I've posted this pic alot but it's relevant to this...
That's one of my characters riding her red chocobo. It has large crown feathers and a big beak because it's raised for intelligence rather than speed.

Re: Final Fantasy
I liked the drawing of magic. It was interesting trying to find all those different hidden draw points and made magic a rare commodity rather than just a boring MP system. I also liked the idea of equipping espers was much more important than level gains. No longer grinding for exp was a great idea.
As for FF7, I liked the idea of equipping materia to equipment. This was ruined because of the ability for any character to equip any materia, especially the horrid idea of ability materia. This made every character nearly identical except for their limit breaks, which mostly did the same damage anyways.
Both games suffered from the use of FMV sequences and obnoxiously emo characters.

Re: Final Fantasy
No matter what Final Fantasy a person prefers it is a testoment to this great series that anybody can find SOMETHING they like. This is the series that brought RPG's mainstream. I worship SQUARE for bringing these games to the US.

Re: Final Fantasy
@dudebro I personally loved the FF8 magic system
not many people know that the draw system is bassed off of your magic stats... the higher your magic stat the more you can draw from a single draw command
if you had a magic of around 200 you could easily draw the max of 15 per draw so you could get to 100 in just 7-8 draws (little farming but not out of the question)
also I liked the fact that your stats were based off of what magic you junctioned to them the more magic the better the bonus
it creates a line of do I just want to draw and cast instantly or do I want to equip the magic command and use the valubale magic at the cost of my stats it added an element of strategy
also something I did not know that I just recently found out in FF8
is that the level system is based off of the highest level person of the current party
meaning if your highest level char is level 8 the monsters will all be around level 8 as well (even bosses) but your stats are baised solely on the magic you have equiped to them
so you could still have great stats of 150+ on everything and have 9999 hp but only be level 8 and the monsters will still be level 8
so when you get to the last boss she only has about 50k heath instead of 500k health and she dies in just a few hits.
same with the hardest boss omega his life would be 30k-150k instead of 3 million to 5 million
and I read on a walk through that you can complete almost the entire game with out gaining even 1 single experience point
what you do is either run from battles after you draw the magic you want or you turn the monsters into cards.
now FFX level system sucked at the end
I had maxed out the leveling grid and beat the last boss in 4 hits with just normal attacks.
in my opinion the final boss of any rpg should be the hardest boss you will ever fight it should be a down right battle to win not a push over

Lol, I laughed so hard at that. The third one you think your going to see Ingus but BAM! Sephiroth! ;D
but oasis, I didn't think anyone would spend so much time maxing up enough ap, even at the end.
I agree with Tenser, not really any character is unique in FF7, I just use Tifa and Cid since they're both the best to look at :P
And for count, it does nice to talk about something different when talking about FF7, it had a lot of small things about it to really appreciate.
