Discrimination

so, my flight to minnesota had a layover in israel, right? while i was there, i was wearing a taqiyah, [url]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taqiyah_(cap)/url] and i had rocks thrown at me by some children in yarmulke. What the crap!?!?! i have never gotten mad at children, but that was the straw that broke the camel's back. i got mad and ran back to my hotel. When i got there, i got my children and went with them to the mosque i saw while i was there, met up with my wife, and stayed in the back till it was time to leave. I thought, oh crap, i always hear about discrimination of jewish people in whats left of palestine, and i never ONCE heard of discrimination against muslims. Why!?! why would someone have their children raised to hate someone? what would cause that?

Re: Discrimination

Maybe a bad expirience from the parents or the bias of a local news station. It's actually sad how this can happen.

Re: Discrimination

if you have been in israel in the past week, be happy that the worst that happened to you is that a rock was thrown. i'm sorry about that experience, but in retrospect, you came from a place in which there is no love loss between the jews and the islamic. i'm not sure how well anyone here follows world events, but there is big time trouble brewing between the israelis and the palestinians, specifically, the hamas terrorist organization.

hamas decided to break a cease fire and started lobbing mortars and rockets indescriminately into israel. after a few days of this, israel decided they had enough and organized surgical airstrikes against hamas strongholds. the israelis had similar bomb systems to ours, specifically, the j-dam laser guided bombs, used to prevent collateral damage. and of course, the arab world condemns israel for their military action.

to answer your question about what would cause someone to raise your children like this...the best answer i've ever been able to come up with is you have to try to understand the history in that part of the world. when the jews arrived in canaan (israel) after escaping egypt, god told joshua (successor of moses) to go in there and staughter every man, woman, or child or else there will be trouble, however, after the jews slaughtered several towns, they lost the taste for it, the palestines (islam had not yet become a religion) suddenly had a big problem with the jews. fastforward to 1948 when the jewish state of israel was offically recognized and that royally ticked off everyone else in the middle east. there has been war since, and in reality, the only way there will be peace in the middle east will be if one side complete wipes out the other. this people (palenstinians)have no education, no money, no future. the only thing they know is to fight the israelis, because that is all their parents ever knew, and their parents before then.
i understand that is a generalization as i'm sure there are many palenstinians that want peace, but they are not the ones in power. the arabs, should they every want to conquer israel will have a very hard time doing so because they are factioned. everytime they have tried, yom kipper war, 6 days war, they have had their taints handed to them.

Re: Discrimination

The bottomline is you looked like thier enemies. I know it's a generalization but you must see what I mean. If an Israeli went to Palestine and walked around with a yarmulke he'd get the same discrimination.
Another example is if I went to some muslim countries wearing a big american flag shirt I might get treated similar. It's all about ignorance.

Re: Discrimination

it all starts out with something stupid with lasting consequences between people, then it's passed on to the children until everyone feels "justice is served"
