Tecmo Bowl: Kick Off (DS)

I recently purchased this game and I really like it. It's quick-paced and very fun. A points system is incorporated into the gameplay (if you play season mode) which allows you to distribute points amongst your players after the season is over. Surprisingly enough, I made it to the Super Bowl on my first try...and won

I ended up losing only 2 games. It's actually a fairly easy game and no one should really have a problem making it to the Super Bowl and even winning it for that matter.

The teams are fully customizable so you can change the name and color of your team. You can also change the team icon (for lack of a better word) from a defauly collection. Additionally, you can change each player's jersey number and skin color too. Like I said, it's pretty much fully customizable.

All in all, I would recommend this game to anyone who has enjoyed a Tecmo Bowl title or just likes sports games in general.

If anyone has any questions about it, I'll be happy to answer them to the best of my ability.

Is the gameplay exactly the same as the original Tecmo Bowl, or did they mess around with things?

Also, are there no NFL teams in it?

When you ask if the game play is exactly the same, that's difficult to answer because it's a portable gaming system. I will say that you have 8 plays to choose from, the running portion isn't as sharp as the original, a dive play has been added where you make make a 1 yard dive if you are close to a 1st down or the end zone. This play is only successful if you don't get clobbered by a lineman or linebacker. I played Tecmo Bowl on the VC after playing this and I just don't think it's as sharp as the NES version. When I say sharp, I mean juking or cutting as you run. Maybe this has to do with the resolution...not sure. Although it's fast paced, Tecmo Bowl seemed significantly faster during game play.

As far as teams go, there are no NFL teams by default. This is where team customization comes in to play. There are a total of 32 teams like the NFL, but all of the team names are generic.

I read that one is being planned for the Wii as well. I love Tecmo Bowl, I think I'm going to wait for the Wii version though.

That's right. Tecmo Bowl Wii has been confirmed but hopefully it will release in 2009 as planned. I think it will. If it does, it will probably be released in the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2009.

There's always Tecmo Bowl for the VC in the meantime

I like the Vc but I kind of want to get internet but, I don't know if my wii could catch a virus, or as many evgers know I call the wii the gamecube+

Having the teams in Tecmo Bowl be the NFL teams was a large part of the appeal for me.

I like Tecmo Bowl alright, and I will give the DS one a shot. In fact I will give it a shot today, since I am riding in the passenger seat for 6 hours today. I'll see if I like it.

I have it, but I haven't played it. I meant to on the trip but I was too busy with other games.

I finally got around to playing this for like an hour at work yesterday. I gotta say, I did like it quite a bit, despite the fake teams and players and all that. I guess I forgot how awesome Tecmo Bowl really is.
