I bought a slice of homemade cherry pie with a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream.
That beats But Nothing Day to a pulp.

I will not feel ashamed for getting cheap movies.
I also don't see how not buying stuff on one day is a protest against consumerism. I think protesting consumerism would have be be done throughout your whole life, not just one day.

Re: Black Friday
I wanted to kill people today. I feel they deserve to die. Quit being mindless automatons.
Present company excluded.
Btw anyone hear about the manager at Walmart who got trampled to death today? I think the people who trampled him should get life sentences. Hope the crap they bought was worth someones life.

Re: Black Friday
Yeah I heard about that and I think its ridiculous. A woman who was 8 months pregnant was trampled too, I think I heard she and the baby are doing okay, thankfully. I don't see a problem with people who are willing to get up early and wait in line to get good deals. I think its pathetic, though, when people find it necessary to break down doors and end up trampling people to get to these sales. Is it really the end of the world if you don't get that cheap DVD player or HDTV? If you get it, then good for you, but you know that there is something wrong with society when they will go to any lengths necessary (which we just saw happen today) to save a few bucks.

Re: Black Friday
I honestly think they should ban these kinds of sales now. A senseless death is a great reason imo.
Also ban christmas music. I don't need to hear about christ being born over the PA in a frigging department store.

Re: Black Friday
I don't go to places like Wal-Mart or Target or any of that. The only place I go to is a local DVD place. I got 6 DVDs for 30 bucks!
It's pretty chill relative to other places. No one really cares that much.

Re: Black Friday
Until they start playing Muslim/Jewish/ect songs on those holidays I am firmly against it being played in public.

Re: Black Friday
The problem with that is that most public places, like stores, that play Christmas music most likely have Christian owners. Why should the government be able to tell them they can't play Christmas songs in their own businesses?

If non christians would just get mad about this then we'd see change.
You know Wal Mart/K mart/ect changed to "seasons greetings" and "Winter Holiday" one year but religious people flipped out so these companies caved and went back to the BS as usual? Really pisses me off. I'm at the point where if I'm asked about christmas I just tell people I hate it and I don't celebrate it. I want them to be offended. Quit shoving your religion down my throat and I'll do the same for you.

Re: Black Friday
Well I guess it's because the owners are Christian, and probably afraid of losing business. The majority of Americans are either Christian or at least celebrate Christmas. Let's face it, the point is to maximize profits. If the companies are going to make more money by selling Christmas items rather than "holiday" items, that's what they're going to do. Nothing is stopping Wal-Mart from selling nothing but hanukkah items at Christmas time, but unless the owner was Jewish and didn't care how much money he lost, that wouldn't make sense. Not saying its right, but its business.

Agreed. People make too much out of the holidays. You have the anti-religious nuts screaming about religion being forced on them and religious nuts screaming about wanting to remove religion from the holiday.
And here I thought the holidays were about spending extra time with your loved ones. Silly me.

I like the idea of Christmas. A winter celebration with your loved ones.
I hate the consumer holiday we have turned Christmas into.

I agree with that 100%. This year when I saw the Christmas stuff coming out before Halloween I said to my wife Christmas is now just about sales for stores it has lost everything that it once stood for and it no longer means its a day to spend time with your family either. It has gone to be all about greed and that is not cool by me at all.

That's only if you let that happen. Excluding for those who still believe in Santa, my family doesn't go overboard with presents. We understand the main focus is spending time with our loved ones. Christmas is only about presents if you let it become that way in your family.
