Thats right tonight is the final night of Toonami, and the last bit of my childhood of CN..

Re: Toonami's Final night

A block about anime & the like can be hard to keep up for a very long period. It was a miracle it lasted this long. But really though, it really haven't been the same since Cartoon Network started [Adult Swim] & even it don't run anime anymore. Could it be the anime craze is finally over?

P.S. I'll miss Toonami, the once greatest block of all of television. Those were the best years of my life.

It's not that its over, its that most people have moved on to watching higher quality subbed anime online whenever they want to.

Adult Swim was great for introducing audiences to anime but it can't compete. Adult Swim only offers people what they think their audience wants to watch at a specific time with lower quality dubbed versions. Even if someone is completely against subbed anime most people have access to digital cable which offers Anime On Demand where they can watch their dubbed shows whenever they want.

The "dot com" generation is starting to more and more become accustomed to watching entertainment programs online.

Yeah it's cool that they played anime but I'd say it's impossible for them to compete. TV, Radio, Books, other mediums are in trouble. Hard to compete when it's all be being blended together in the internet.

I'd be willing to bet that anime is the second highest download on the internet behind porn. No pun intended. Most people I know who like anime just download it off torrents.

Btw, I read that all the programming is just being switched around to other spots. They did say some shows might not be picked up though. I don't really follow it but figured I'd mention that.

That's why a lot of companies are moving more and more of their content online. You can stream your local radio stations and peruse your local newspaper all online. Legitimately pay to download movies, music, games, and books.

Re: Toonami's Final night

The ending was good, they shut down the reactor and said goodbye. In my oppinion the golden years of Toonami ended after they took Yu yu hakusho off.

I watch mainly stuff online now, funny thing is I watched SNF on NFL.com tonight and we just got a new TV.

Anyways heres the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ofu9SLxxupM

"Well this is the end beautiful friends, after more than 11 years this is Toonami's final broadcast. It's been a lot of fun. We'd like to thank each and every one of you who made this journey with us. Toonami wouldn't have been anything without you. Hopefully, we've left you with some good memories. So, until we meet again, stay gold. Bang."

Re: Toonami's Final night

That character is just another example of trying to market to a young crowd. They wanna make him look more childlike and less menacing(cool). No wonder people are becoming more and more ignorant. It's hard to grow up when all you're exposed to is watered down kid friendly crap.

Not aimed at anyone here.

@Dudebro: So your saying Violence and other things should be for children? I have absolutely no idea that you grew up to (I would say Tom and Jerry but I feel like it would get my face bashed in) but was it watered down?

Anyways, anyone remember trapped in hyperspace dilema?

Sure I'll tell you what I watched as a kid but it will just make me look old.

I watched a lot of TV growing up and played a lot of games. When I was little I remember watching G.I. Joe mainly. Also Thundercats, Transformers, He Man and TMNT. So yeah a lot of violence in those shows.

How did it harm me? I'm not a hostile person. I don't beat people up or treat people bad. I think I'm a better person for watching violence. I wasn't sheltered and protected from the world like most kids now days. I know that sounds like something an old person would say but it's very true. The amount of hand holding and censoring going on is insane. Most people I talk to who are @18 usually tell me how thier parents hid stuff from them or just denied them. It's bad to overexpose kids to violence but it's much worse to hide them from it.

I have to admit that watching anime is not being sheltered. I like most animes because they don't treat the viewer like children. It's only the ones that are centered on creepily young looking female leads that bother me.

One last thing. I never liked Tom and Jerry, it was old school when I was young. But, it was a lot more violent than the stuff I watched.

TMNT for me.

Well, I think it should have both ways, to show children, which it does now. But I do agree censoring has went insane, but Cartoonish Figures like Tom were like rolemodels.

Anime rocks.

Re: Toonami's Final night

I'm with Dudebro on this one. I've watched Transformers, GI Joe, MASK, Dino Riders, Centerions, & Sky Commanders on YouTube recently (boy, did it bring me back), & I have a understanding on what all my generation grew up with. I was never against violence in cartoons as long as it doesn't get too out of hand, & it didn't with these. Anime had raised the bar a bit with the programs shown on Toonami back during it's golden age, but I still don't think it's that bad.

Today's programming seem watered down & is sheltering kids from the realities of the real world. I agree with Dudebro there. That's one of the reasons I don't watch Cartoon Network anymore (thank God for DSL). Anyone wondered why today Transformers programs weren't as good as G1 was? That's part of my arguement. Maybe Cartoon Network stopped running good programming because they know we can get it online whenevewr we want, & they know they can't compete. I agree with Tenser there.

There in lies the problem. Being censored has caused the next generation to think of them as role models. Children are not maturing properly thus we have the potential for a lot of immature adults. Entertainers, fictional or not, are not proper rolemodels.

I grew up watching Tom & Jerry, G.I. Joe, He-Man, Transformers, MASK and what have you. They weren't rolemodels nor were they pretending to be anything of the sort.

I like the original TMNT too.

@Tenser: I see your point, people are sheltered I guess, but what about Bozo and others that were role models back then?

Man. New Tom was lame as hell!

I watched Toonami when Dragon Ball Z was on it. I watched some other weird anime they played, but I don't remember what it was. I remember one show has this futuristic teenager and he had a dog...I can't remember for the life of me what it was called.

lol I watched the Ending Boadcast thing, and I didn't even recognize Tom, Show's how much it's changed in the 11 years, it just couldn't keep up and stay alive. Well it was a fun part of my childhood, but it's gotta die sometime

Yeah. Here's hoping that some channel, somewhere will someday (hopily soon) create a block just as cool as that one.
I'd be searching right now if I didn't cancel my subscription to DirectTV four years ago.
