Metal Gear Solid 4

Has anyone played MGS4. I have never liked the Metal Gear games because I think the number one priority of any game developer should be gameplay, which Metal Gear has always lacked, but I heard the new one is great. I have always liked the concept of MGS, just not the practice. I am soon going to inherit a PS3 and MGS 4 (my future room-mate has both) and I wondered if anyone could confirm that the gameplay, as well as the rest of the game, is tight.

Also, will playing it be worthless if I don't really know the back story?

i havent played 4, but i have ALWAYS loved the MGS games (except the GBC one, that was rubbish), but i would play it anyway dude, has the same characters as the first MGS (not MG), and i think it looks great...

but thats just my opinion. form your own, what does it matter :P

I must say I have never played the MGS series but the previews for MGS4 do look good and I want to try it but I cant bring my self to spend 60 bucks.

As a long time MGS fan, the $60 would not be an issue. I'm contemplating droping $500 for the 80Gb PS3 package that comes with MGS4...but I know it'll never happen.

Yeah I read a review of MSG4 in GamePro magazine and it looked A-OK to me.

yeah, a question to anyone who's played this and previous ones: is the gameplay more like MGS1/2? or 3? i like all of them, im just wondering if you have to eat and heal your wounds as well...

From what I have seen it is like none of them. The gameplay videos I have seen make it look like a standard 3rd person stealth/shooter.

The game is simply unreal. Metal gear online is good aswell. Spend the 60 bucks, without thinking twice about it. Its more than worth the investment.

I know dudes that bought a PS3 for this game. I have a lot of friends that are Metal Gear freaks. They always get mad at me when I tell them if I wanted a good story with virtually no gameplay I would watch a movie.

Lol if you cant fork over 60 bucks but you just HAPPEN to have Brawl, then play as Snake at Shadow Moses Island =P

that was MGS1, MGS4 wont be at shadow moses island... it has the same characters yeah, but not the same location...

im bordering spoilers on this post, so be wary, but some of MGS4 does take place on shadow moses. Including my favourite boss battle of all time.
