823k on Splatterhouse?

I saw a score on Retrouprising that surprised me. It's the 823k score by Innuendo on Splatterhouse. I have seen the top 2 Arcade players play, and from what I have seen it seems that 700k, or maybe 750k is the max possible on this game. But 823k is on another level.
How was he able to pull that off? I saw the score was unverified, and so I requested score verification because it is by far a World Record score.
Basically seeing an 823k score on this game is like seeing a 1..05 million score on Ms. Pac-man.

Hi George. A mod will definitely check on that for you soon and let you know. I would not be surprised if it was a world record set on RU, though, as there have been many WR that have been set on RU by quite a few players (including a few of my own I must confess that I set here).

It is legit. You get 100k (if i recall) for beating the final boss and then timing dying so you can do it all over again. Milking bubbles and so forth. x 5 or more lives. Would net you 800k.

OK, that makes sense. For whatever reason if I remember correctly you are not allowed to do that with the TG score. Not too sure why though.
I feel sort of stupid about forgetting about that technique.

Hi, hate to bump this, but... I thought milking like that was banned? Seems like it in the RU rules. Noone at MARP really seems to be using it either... fun fact: Innuendo is the champ of all sets there (:V!) though those scores do not seem to be verified yet.

IIRC, you can only gain a maximum amount of lives, hence you can only kill the last boss an infinite amount of times.
This was discussed during last year's IGBY tournament, and so it was decided that this tactic was a legal one.
TG were obviously not aware that the player can only obtain a finite amount of lives when they banned this method.

Oh, that seems fair. Reminds me a bit of poor old R-Type, though... sounds like a one-life category would work well for this game.

Speaking of R-Type, I think it was either Pulstar or Blazing Star that has something just like this.

It definitely was debated during the last IGBY. The consensus was the original rule was implemented to prevent infinite lives from repeating the boss fight. However, it was not known at that time there is a limit on the number of lives (11 or 12, I believe) the player hits regardless of whether they leech the second-to-last boss or the last one. So, it doesn't really make sense to allow leeching in one place and not another, especially since repeatedly killing the boss seems a more difficult and lucrative method of burning off the extra lives. In other words, we felt the old rule is outdated since it is based on an incorrect assumption. My best guess is we will see separate tracks on TG at some point for this, but it will probably be a minute before that discussion even starts.
