Some games in MAME use a separate .ZIP file for some of its sound effects. Some examples from this site are Q*Bert, Q*Bert's Qubes and Congo Bongo. While I know they aren't required for the gameplay or anything, it's still kind of odd not hearing certain sounds when I expect them. Is there any way to include the sample files with the games or is there a place on my own hard drive I can put those files so they'll work when the game's played?
Retrouprising games play off of a specialized copy of MAME that is stored on your computer if you play games here.
Go to Users/AppData/local/temp/low/arcadeox on your computer
There you'll find the usual MAME folder layout.
If necessary you can run the executable with the -createconfig flag to generate the mame.ini file that you can edit to change the samples directory if you need to.
(I think this info is still valid, haven't played on the site for a long time)
I'm not sure which folder to do this in. There's "coinop_beta13", "coinopF", "score_beta1", and "scorexI". Besides, for any of them (or all of them) can't I just create a folder called "samples" and put the .ZIP files there (it's the MAME default)?
Just tested it and it works perfectly without even needing to create an .INI file. Thanks!
For anyone else who wants to do this, go to Twisty's MAME Samples Collection and download the files for whichever games you want. Then go to Users\[Name]\AppData\local\temp\low\arcadeox\coinopF. Create a folder named "samples" and put the .ZIP files there.
