Okay, Barras Jeopardy is in first... just want to remind everyone that it was a joke. And I don't think my JJ was technically nominated.
Phit80's Mario Bros. for me.

Re: 2013's Most Impressive Game Clear
people are really hellbent on poopoo classics on here. Doesn't surprise me but maybe JUL's should have won. Although 77m is not that much in Dodonpachi. So, in the end, without any logic of what i just said. Mario Bros probably should win.

Re: 2013's Most Impressive Game Clear
by all means im not bashing the clear, I just think that something else should have obtained the badge other than a game that is cleared over and over again , speaking in terms of it being cleared so many times by EVERYONE and being recognized every time.

Thanks guys...
Not sure how I got nominated, but I'm definitely honored.
As to Jason, I don't think Mario Bros is a title cleared "so many times by EVERYONE". Are you confusing it with "Super" Mario Bros?
It's a game that requires quite a bit of endurance and given the finite set of lives it makes it a challenge to maintain proper grouping and pattern execution. There is also absolutely no downtime during play aside from the 4-5 seconds after clearing a bonus round. What may look simple is a lot more difficult in practice.
Do I think I deserve the title of 2013's most impressive game clear? Definitely not. But to belittle the title and say it's so easy EVERYONE is doing it is a bit of a stretch.

There are some messed up rules on RU, for example a clear in DK is simply getting to L=02. I'd imagine that there is something similar for Mario Bros. So a lot of people have "cleared" it. Great score, and congrats.

Ah...gotcha. I was assuming a "clear" was a full loop/completion.
Thanks again

Re: 2013's Most Impressive Game Clear
@Philt80: like I said before, I wasn't bashing the clear or the Integrity of the game at all for that matter, I congratulate you on your award by all means, I just don't see how it would overcome a RPG that is balls to the wall hard and not many people can complete OVER a title that has been completely exhausted since 1983. StevenCassidy understands what im getting at, But once again I DO congratulate you on your win.

Re: 2013's Most Impressive Game Clear
To be fair. No one associates RPGs as being hard. If i remember correctly doesn't fantasy star have some ridiculous dungeons as far as trying to traverse them? Much like the real world, commercial is king. Games that people are familiar with or popular will always win out.

Re: 2013's Most Impressive Game Clear
Then why did you lose? Clearly, the Dodonpachi clear is more difficult. But it lost. Why? Your fantasy star lost, why? I got no votes on my blazing lasers, yet castlevannia got votes and so did kung-fu master. All popular games.

Re: 2013's Most Impressive Game Clear
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with the votes given. Remember, this is all subjective anyhow, what you think is impressive or I think is impressive, Tenser may not think it's impressive or SC13. I understand your frustration but honestly, to say the games that did get votes just because they're popular is a bit ludicrous.
---------- Post added at 09:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:07 PM ----------
As for no one associating RPG's being hard, that's also ridiculous. Demon's / Dark Souls are both action-RPGs and they're considered extremely hard but also extremely rewarding. Most people who have played any Shin Megami Tensei game before Persona 3 / 4 also associate those as being tough. Where did this logic come into play?

Re: 2013's Most Impressive Game Clear
The problems are:
-There are too many selections. If there were fewer to choose from, people might be inclined to go ahead and try the games themselves, or watch the playbacks.
Witch leads us to:
-People are not going to vote for a game that they know nothing about.
I seriously doubt than any one person on this site knows enough about all these entries, to suggest with absolute certainty, witch one is the most impressive. For all I know maybe Phantasy Star is the best clear, but why would someone vote for it when they've never played it? Maybe next year a small paragraph highlighting why a game should be considered for a vote can be included.

Not at all. Plus, I am not sure why games from different generations are being compared to retro games.
We can take a sample size of the data and apply logic to it. Surprisingly, Dodonpachi goe 3 votes. It is a bullet-hell shoot em up and in a genre of game that isn't widely popular. Although, Dodonpachi is a popular game for a shootem up and chances people may have heard of it and associate this danmaku game with craziness.
Kung-Fu - How can you not like this game? I remember sinking hours into on the NES and in the Arcade.
Castlevannia - What more needs to be said? An awesome franchise of games.
Mario Bros - I never really played this game much but i remember having a blast playing this over my baby sitters when i was like 5.
Fantasy Star - This series never did it for me. I always preferred Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest/Warrior.
Blazing Lasers - Considering their big hit series was rtype i wouldn't expect many people to know this obscure title from an "esoteric" genre.
Demon's Crest - Never heard of it
Jeopardy - Surprised this got any.
Castlevannia 3 - Never played it. Not a classic in the sense of classics.
and if i still haven't persuaded you, if you can give your take on why the popular games all got votes vs others. I am all ears.
