Top Score vs Speedrun

Are the speedruns for a certain title seperate from the top score? Are they two seperate variations? So can I play for a speedrun only and it won't effect my already submitted score if the score is lower but the time is quicker?

They are indeed seperate. I have counter-stopped a game called verytex. I have another score on the board for a "speedrun".

Seems like this will keep going back and forth. I think the key is in stage selection and point pressing without leeching at the correct areas.
