snes9x keyboard controls don't work

anybody experience that before?

if i run the browser as administrator and set super-nintendo.exe to always run as administrator, the game loads fine. i can save and load states without issue, and operate all the menu commands with the mouse. but the keyboard just doesn't control the game. notes:

- tried multiple snes games, keyboard doesn't work on any
- tried arcadeox full mode and score mode, neither recognize the keyboard.
- tried from both firefox and IE
- just finished playing a genesis game in IE where it worked without issue
- tried plugging the keyboard in different USB ports
- keyboard works everywhere else on the computer
- tried reprogramming the buttons. the keyboard is recognized while i enter keys for each control
- neither steam nor joytokey are installed

any idea what i'm missing? it seems really really weird that the program can recognize the keyboard in the snes9x menu, but not in the snes9x game. i have no idea what variable would cause this.

2. What is your OS? Example Vista, XP, Mac OSX, etc. win 7 64-bit
3. What is your browser? Example Firefox 3.5, Internet Explorer 7, etc. firefox v25.0.1
4. Post a link to one game you are having problems with. Final Fantasy 3 - Super Nintendo (happens with all SNES ArcadeOX games)
5. What Play Mode is causing the problem? Example ArcadeOX Score, Java Full, etc. Arcade OX
6. Has it ever worked correctly before? not SNES games, but Genesis games worked fine

In Score Mode, Press Tab. Does a menu appear?
In Full Mode, Press Alt. Does a menu appear?

Make sure the game window has focus by clicking on it first.

Does Genesis Score Mode work?

Sounds like it should be working then.

Make sure you are using the correct keys.

In FF3 the start button doesn't start the game. On a real controller you would use the A button. On the keyboard in Score Mode that is X and in Full Mode it is C.

You have to watch the intro in FF3, there isn't a skip button. Although you can press End to fast forward and if you start the intro and then press Reset the next time you play the intro will skip.

If X or C isn't starting FF3 then maybe you changed the default keys. Press Tab or Alt to get to the menu and change the key settings to something you like.

so i'm apparently misinformed, as the controls worked once the prologue was over. sorry about that. although this did reveal another problem covered in another thread.
