in Team Marathon I

This is a contest for teams only. If you are not on a team you can try to be an obstacle block for those that are playing. Read last paragraph for details.

The winning team members will receive badges and a tally will be kept counting the total # of first, second and last place standings your team receive.

There are two stages to this contest.

Stage one starts now and ends at this time Monday (check the post time above).

Stage two starts when stage one finishes. It lasts until two teams complete the marathon, leaving the third team in default third place.

Stage one: The Strategy Round.
Each team selects two console games, the "Marathon Games", and one high score enabled game, the "Bonus Game". The team captains PM their selections to me. I will share the PM with all of the mods who will keep the info secret and not act on this info. That way all teams are equal. Once the team captain PM me they can not change their mind. If you do not PM me before this time Monday then your team is skipped.

Stage two: The Competition Round.
First team to submit a screen shot of the end of all the Marathon Games wins. The other two teams will continue to compete for second place.

Bonus
The first team to finish all Marathon Games will receive a 1,500 point bonus for each high score they have in the Bonus Games. The team captains can divide the points however they want.

A team can choose:
Game Name/System - Team Save State
Game Name/System - Individual Member Save States
Game Name/System - No Saves.

If it is on NES then also:
Game Name/System - Team Save RAM
Game Name/System - Individual Member Save RAM

If it is on NES and has passwords or codes:
Game Name/System - Keystroke Movie

If it has on other systems and has passwords or codes:
Game Name/System - Honor System - No Codes

The team that picks the game can pick any of the options above and all members have to obey.

The bonus game will not have any special options. It functions normally - high score wins.

All of the mods will have the advantage of knowing when someone has completed an individual game. The mods have been instructed to not share this info with the rest of their team. Do not ask them how the other teams are progressing.

You do not have to be on a team to submit a score in the Bonus Games. In the event that a high score in a Bonus Game is held by a rouge player at the end of the contest then that player will get the bonus, not the teams.

General info:
When your team finishes PM me and I will verify. All images are time stamped so need to worry if I do not immediately respond. If you are first to finish, you will win even if you are not first to PM me.

I don't think any of these games have cheats or other codes but if they do then do not use them.

You can use Save States in Phantasy Star 4.

You can make save states in all of the other games. But you will not be able to load those save states. You should make a save state before you submit your end screen shot just in case something goes wrong. I will be able to load your save state and verify that you got to the end.


In NES games. You can press A to take a screen shot. You can make as many as you want but one is enough. You can also record a movie by pressing F8. Both options will be acceptable to prove you finished the challenge.

In Genesis games. Right click the game and select "Submit Score" when you beat the game. You can only submit an image once per session in Genesis games. If you submit at the wrong time you will have to save your state, reload the page, load your state, select submit.

When you choose save state or load state or submit score the game will pause for up to a minute. When the game resumes then the image will be saved or the state will be loaded or saved. Do not panic if it takes it pauses for a long time while saving or submitting your image. It is normal. Just be patient and wait for the game to resume.

If you have any problems with the Genesis game not responding when you press buttons then right click the game and select "Change Controls" then click "Cancel". The game should work fine after doing that. It is often necessary to do this if the Java window loses focus. Java loses focus if you use the mouse to click outside of the game window or switch to a different window.


All of the mods will be able to see the images submitted. The mods are instructed to not share this info with their team or to let it effect their strategy. The mods can tell you if your own image was submitted correctly and is valid. They can not tell you about the other teams so do not ask.

Both the original and the online version of Phantasy Star 4 have a bug. If you reach level 99 your team's stats will go down to around level 40 and each additional level the stats go backwards. Most likely you will not reach level 99 so you don't have to worry about this but if you are about to reach it contact me and I will try to help you. No guarantees though. Best bet is don't reach level 99. If you reach level 99 before you contact me then I can not help at all.

Bonus games:
If you are the first team to finish the above games and have the high score in any of these games when you finish then you will receive a bonus.

Rampart - Genesis Mega Men
Loopz - NES Grumpy Old Men
Gyroball - Flash Shining Force

In the event of a tie in the bonus games then the most recent score is considered the high score.

I'd say choose the very first scenario. The later ones start some leaders with alot of land and that won't be challenging. We can tell when you start by the date(unless you're unbelievably good at the game). Hopefully that makes sense.

Actually no now that I think about it. Can't tell when you started by the date.

I say we all hold off on this game until we confirm what we're all supposed to do.

I'm sorry I just realized we'll probably have to record Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Just to watch the very begininng and the very end. You can choose more than one player and if you pick the later chapters you start with about a third of the land.

Sorry I didn't notice this stuff before. I don't wanna mess this up right at the start. I think videos would be the best option to avoid disputes about it. I'm not saying people will try to scam but it seems like the only fair way.

I think we should do it this way;
1)Start in Last chapter as Cao Cao.
2)Make the Goal 100% of the land since he starts with a majority as it is.
3)Set the Difficulty to Weakest so we're all on the same level. Also makes it quicker.
4)Set the Computer Players as either Warlike or Rational, shouldn't make it any quicker either way.

This is easier than before but not a pushover.(Hopefully) If you guys aren't familiar with the game the other two rulers are strong even though they don't have alot of land. I think this option is probably the best for this contest. If anyone disagrees speak up.

Again really sorry for disrupting this contest. I'm ok with whatever is decided, I want this to be fair/fun for everyone. And sorry to anyone who started this already.

So to be clear are we going with my newest suggestion? Start movie before you choose anything then do;

No. When you play a game you get rated on your play on a score from 1 to 100. Based on that it advances your level. The key is that you have to win the game to get a rating. When you finish there is a screen that shows a breakdown of your rating. Hope that helps.

basicly from what i read on the games loading is you get minus points for having a strike out or making bad plays so basicly you have to play perfect for 5 games in a row... and that game sucks so bad i dont think i would want to play past the frist team
