Is This ‘Star Wars’ Anime the Future of the Franchise?

YouTube is great at kitten hijinks and skateboarding fails, but at its best it provides the average joe with a forum to show off his skills. Such is the case with this short but incredibly impressive ‘Star Wars’ anime, which was created by user OtaKing77077. Lucasfilm, you had better watch closely.

Essentially a montage of a mammoth space battle, the video depicts the Empire’s TIE fighters and the Rebel Alliance’s X-wings (among other ships) blasting it out in epic fashion. Simple proposition, awesome execution, and a great many wonderful sights are contained within. (Love the AT-AT Walkers’ cameo!) The only negative here is that it’s not much, much longer.
The song, ‘Born to Lose’ by Sleigh Bells, was in fact added by another user; it appears as thought the original version of the short was taken down by Mr. OtaKing77077 perhaps thanks to a cease and desist letter straight from Lucasfilm? Will be interesting to see if we can expect more from this video’s creator; don’t we all yearn for something visionary to cultivate in the ‘Star Wars’ universe once again? Shouldn’t this be the future of the ‘Star Wars’ franchise instead of more ‘Clone Wars’ episodes?

Re: Is This ‘Star Wars’ Anime the Future of the Franchise?

'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' is an excellent television show, and an even greater Star Wars installment. It's definitely not for kids at all.
That being said, I wouldn't mind seeing a Star Wars anime, though I'm thinking it won't go over to well with the other critics who see Japanese people as insane so -shrug- it's up in the air.

Re: Is This ‘Star Wars’ Anime the Future of the Franchise?

I'm not a big fan of the anime style but this looks good. Anything to get more creativity into the franchise is good imo.

Btw you probably couldn't post the video on RU because they want you to visit youtube, some uploaders are like that.

@RedLetter- Not for kids at all? That's a load of crap and you know it. It's a good show and not just for kids but it's very much aimed at kids and their parents.

Re: Is This ‘Star Wars’ Anime the Future of the Franchise?

When you post a link to Youtube here on RU, to embed the video you need to post the long version of the link, which is

www .youtube.com/watch?v=XXXXXXXXX

(without the space, I did it to prevent linking)
where the X are the characters for the video ID, which is just random, and seen in the address bar at the top, or in the share option after the youtu.be/, in this case: -tBM2ZfncoU

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tBM2ZfncoU"]Star Wars Tie Fighter Animation (WIP) by otaking77077 with sounds SFX! - YouTube[/ame]

The share box used to have an option for a long link, that seems to be removed in the new layout, that doesn't embed on RU.

It's aimed at kids solely because of the animation style and because it's on Cartoon Network, otherwise, it's not a good show for kids to watch.

There have been multiple instances of characters committing suicide, clone troopers getting their heads chopped off, reference to death and blood and decay, and most recently, Darth Maul's insane personality at the end of Season 3.

Maybe I'm looking too much into it, but the subject material is really dark. The show does have its light hearted and comedic moments, but not to the effect that the movie did. The movie was clearly one aimed at kids, it was horrible and the comedy (if you can even call it that) was piss-poor. The show, however, severely toned down the comedy in the later episodes and started to deal with some serious subjects, such as being corrupted by power, the trials and tribulations a Jedi goes through, political assassinations and corruption, etc.

-shrug- Then again, maybe I'm looking too much into it.

Re: Is This ‘Star Wars’ Anime the Future of the Franchise?

Lots of kids shows have surprisingly dark stories. I remember watching GI Joe as a kid and it wasn't exactly kid friendly to have Cobra Commander gassed in the face and turned into an actual snake, for example. I think Duke also caught a snake through the heart but he got better.

Btw how about their choice of making Asoka one of the main characters? She's obviously meant to appeal to kids. Well maybe creepy anime fans too but mainly kids. Either way I know my four year old nephew loves Clone Wars, it appeals to him.

Re: Is This ‘Star Wars’ Anime the Future of the Franchise?

Ahsoka has a pretty big role in the storyline. Anakin uses this experience as a master to later train Galen Marek / Starkiller once he becomes Darth Vader. Until The Clone Wars concludes and we find out the fate of Ahsoka, she might have a bigger role.

I don't follow the show at all so I wouldn't know really. I only bring her up because besides kid Vader there's no other young main characters in the SW media and he was to draw in kids too.

The continuity police are all over the fact that Ahsoka doesn't appear in Episode III.
I'm just guessing but I think Count Dooku would be my favorite candidate to kill Ahsoka before Order 66.

Re: Is This ‘Star Wars’ Anime the Future of the Franchise?

According to the Star Wars wiki, she dies on the planet Mortis, 21 years BBY.
Obviously they haven't gotten to that particular episode yet, so I'm guessing she dies after the show or something similar.

Re: Is This ‘Star Wars’ Anime the Future of the Franchise?

I doubt they'll show Ashoka's death on the show.

The show was very light and a lot more for kids the first two seasons. But since then, it's been getting darker and more for people in the age range of 10-15 or so.

@ChrisP, see my reply to Dudebro, lol.
Even in the first couple of seasons there were still Clone Troopers getting their heads chopped off and political intrigue.
