Online capability? Possible?

I'm wondering, is it possible to do online capability? What about online between buddies in your buddy list? I mean, this wouldn't be SO hard; it would just map your controls to P1 or P2, and another buddy or person to the other player. . .

Re: Online capability? Possible?

Well, no, I wasn't thinking of putting Internet capability into the emulators, but I just thought that it would be tight to put the ability to play onine against / with other people into the emulators. I mean, the emulators and games ARE online ALREADY, so. . .

Re: Online capability? Possible?

Hero - Joe and oasis are talking about the emulators currently on this site.

The process was experimented with a little bit a while back (the onVGP days). It may be brought back to life after the site update.

Re: Online capability? Possible?

Yes, they are java based game emulators. Did you think that Kong had a console plugged into the computer or something?

Re: Online capability? Possible?

ok since it needs explaining

a emulator is a program writen in computer language such as C++ or java the emulator emulates what the acctual console did because the nes is not a computer consold so you cant plug your nes games in to your computer... so you need a emulator to emulate the game just like the nes would...

take your PJ64 that is a computer emulator for the N64 it emulates what the console did...

a java emulator is a emulator be it nes genesis gameboy is a emulator coded in java so it is compatible to be used on a web site.. because websites or not compatible to use C++ or the like...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emulator

that was worded badly but you should get the point

I have a couple other things planned for after the site update. The thing Sabby is talking about is in my plans for next year. Multiplayer games online but would require a download and an installing software in order to use it.

Re: Online capability? Possible?

OK, wait, wait, wait a second. I was talking about something like this:

O I play Bubble Bobble for the NES. The controls for my computer are mapped to P1's controls.
O Guest comes along and wants to join my game. He prompts my game, which tells me Guest wants to join.
O I accept, and it shows my game also on Guest's screen, and his controls are mapped to P2 (or he just uses the P2 controls).

Only buddies would be able to chat in-game. That's pretty much my idea; the game is already hosted and shown on the server, right? I mean, I'm just seeing the server's game, and I'm controlling what's happening; all the server would have to do is output the game to another person's screen and sound and take inputs from that computer too for P2. Is THAT possible?

Re: Online capability? Possible?

The game is not played on the server. The game is downloaded from the server and stored, encrypted, in temporary RAM space on your computer and played locally. To do online play the input (button presses) would be uploaded from both player's computers to the server and then downloaded to each player's computer. Java would not allow you to bypass the server and communicate directly with each player.

Re: Online capability? Possible?

That's what the download and install part is for. To allow you to bypass communicating via the server which could increase lag.
