Inspired by Tenser and Cam, I figured, hey, why not? I can rip off other people too!

In all seriousness, I will be following in Tenser's and Cam's footsteps and playing through while giving commentary in the form of text posts in this thread.
I've only played FF3 briefly, so briefly that the farthest I got was getting the Princess and wandering through some high-leveled cave and getting really, really, owned. And of the DS version, I've only played about the same, so this game is completely new to me.
I'm not sure of the frequency of the posts, but they'll come. Oh, will they come.
So, without further ado, I present:
A Final Fantasy 3 Blind Commentary!
P.S, it's the NES version of 3, the -real- version of FF3. :P

Session 1: The Ur Cave & LandTurtl boss.
* * *
I begin the game by naming the four Onion Knights after the DS version characters: Luneth, Arc, Refia, and Ingus. Shortly after, they fall down a whole and I'm introduced into the games first battle: a group of goblins whose numbers change each time you play the game apparently. This time it was just two, and I took care of them easily. I get the two items in the chests, one containing a Leather Shield and the other containing a Potion. Moving further into the cave, I run into a few more goblins, dispatch them, and level up to 2. The kids see an odd rock, which leads the player to assume s/he has to examine the rock, which opens up a blocked path. On the other side of the wall is a SouthWind, which is a consumable item that casts an Ice spell, presumably Blizzard. I save this one for the boss, and continue to the next area.
In the next screen, more enemies, this time an EyeFang and a Carbuncle, tougher than goblins, but nothing a couple hits won't cure. I level up again, get a couple more items, namely some Potions, another Leather Shield, and another SouthWind. This one I'll sell later at Ur for a whopping 500 gil! I continue forward to a fork in the path, and head right, and the kids see a spring which they recommend they should drink out of. Good place to grind, as the body of water is a Recovery Spring, healing both HP and MP. There's a chest, here, too, that contains another Potion. Counting the potion I got from a random battle, I have 4 potions so far. After some grinding for the LandTurtl boss, my party reaches level 5, and I continue on to the Altar Cave, after which the LandTurtle ambushes me and the games first boss battle begins.
Immediately, I use the SouthWind and deal a good 68 damage to the boss, which speeds this battle up greatly - he has 120 HP! Even at level 5, each character only does about 6-8 damage each. Now you see why I saved that SouthWind. I beat him, get some EXP and Gil, and receive some shocking news from the Wind Crystal - the world is at risk of crumbling, and it's up to our 4 Onion Knights to save the world. The Crystal gives us some power, which allows us to use the Job command. Immediately, I remove everybody's equipment and change their jobs: Luneth - Warrior, Arc - Monk, Refia - Red Mage, Ingus - Warrior. I reequip everybody, and head out onto the World Map.
In the town of Ur, I get word from the elder, who is the four kids adopted father, that it was no coincidence that the Crystal chose them. We should go forth, and save the world! But first, a little preparation. I go to the Inn, sell the SouthWind, rest, and buy some equipment. At this point, after equipping everybody, Arc, my Monk, is my strongest character - a whole 30 points of attack after giving him 2 nunchuks! That'll help me immensely to come. I buy PURE for Refia, my Red Mage, and also get CURE from the storehouse, along with 2 antidotes, and a Potion or two. Exiting the storehouse, I follow the path below for a hidden Potion, then head back to the main town area, heading right and up to talk to a little girl who's picking flowers - behind her is another potion. Heading south, now, past a little hidden path in the trees, I talk to a shocked old lady and head down a well to get another three potions! I now have 9 potions. Before I leave, though, I go back to the Elder's house and talk to an old man, who tells me to press B and use a potion on him. Doing so gives me an Echo Herb, which I believe cures silence, a great item to have for my Red Mage.
I exit the town and save on the world map. So far, so good!
