BBC News - Sandwich celebrates 250th anniversary of the sandwich

Although it was technically yesterday. Anyways, the sandwich is second only to beer on the list of man's greatest achievements, so be thankful.

My favorite sandwich is ham and turkey over Swiss or American cheese, topped with lettuce and mustard. How bout' you? Any variation of food that's kinda-sorta like a sandwich also works.

Chicken & fish with thick cut swiss.
Alternatively, beef and eggs with thin cut pepperjack.

Lately I've been diggin the "buffalo pollo" as the italian sandwich place near my work calls it. It's grilled chicken with cheddar, Franks Hot Sauce, and ranch dressing, it's amazing.

Gotta be a french dip. Sliced steak and cheese on a toasted roll with a side of au jus and fries.

In the case of hot sandwiches, I must say that I've never appreciated something more than a Subway chicken terriyaki on flat bread. I also have it crammed with spinach, black olives, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and green peppers.

I like lots of sandwiches so it's hard to name just one. Right now I'm kinda hooked on chicken salad with provolone from a greek place near where I live. It's so good I could eat several without even thinking about it.

Other than that I really love a good homemade cheeseburger on wheat bread(or rye/sourdough/pumpernickel/any other tasty bread).

@DN- Subway makes bad sandwiches. Stale bread and frozen ingredients. Go to a local place and support real(ish) food.

If I felt that the bread was stale, or the ingredients frozen, I would not eat there. There will be a day when I find a better sandwich place, there is no doubt about it, but that day has not yet come for me.

I'm not saying sandwiches are the more complex or innovative achievement. I'm saying it's benefited society more. At the very least it has the edge over beer because of beers down sides.

Beer, in this modern day, is seldom drunk wisely, yet has a rich history of influencing great things. Booze, though, was always destructive. We have much to discuss through PM, I can see.

I cannot name any restaurants or lunch nooks in my town that serve no sandwiches, and there are several that serve only sandwiches. Being a sandwich enthusiast, I have tried to adventure out anywhere I can (to much, much satisfaction), but have found nothing that tops the flat bread terriyaki.

Enough about beer it's ruining a perfectly good discussion about sandwiches!

@DN- I only go to subway once in a blue moon when I want something cheap and fast like a five dollar meatball sub. Don't you have a Panera? It might be a tad pricy but the quality is so much better than subway. Different kind of sandwiches sure but still better.

@steven- I doubt it but meh let's just drop it. We can just agree that poutine has killed far too many people and it should be outlawed.
