Also one of the guys told me that on a few nes games that didn't have save capabilities
you could do some start select reset thing and it would save your game progress as long as you didn't play another game before returning to it. Does anyone know anything about this? Cause I just bought adventure island and I don't feel like playing it all the way through in one sitting at the moment.

They are half right. If you are playing a bootleg SNES cartidge of EB and the game doesn't pass the tests it runs to see if it's legit, there will be way more enemies than normal, the game will tell you piracy is wrong on bootup, and your game freezes and wipes all saves at the final boss pre fight speech. I've beaten the game on ZSNES before, so not a problem for roms.
Some games had battery saves like this. (Zelda 1 and 2) Most games just told you to hold reset then hit power. (Baseball Stars, Dragon Warrior, Tecmo Super Bowl). Adventure Island has no save function iirc.
There is a way to continue, at the end of 1-1 you jump in a certain spot and an egg appears with the Hudson logo inside. Hold right and hit start on the game over screen and it should allow a continue.
