Re: controller
Welcome to RU. If you have a xbox 360 controller you can just plug it in and play.

I've used several controllers and 360 is the best.

Re: controller
I think most any usb controller can be used right away, when you start up a game hit tab to bring up the options, the rest is easy to figure out.

Re: controller
I have an Xarcade controller. It works great on the coin op games but I can't get it to work for any other games. Any suggestions? And yes, I'm very familiar with hitting tab and mapping the keys to the way I like to play.

Re: controller
Are you setting the controls on a System level or General level? I have found for some systems you have to set it in both places for it to work properly. (Colecovision comes to mind)

Re: controller
I'm not sure I understand the question. The only place I know to configure the contoller is after starting the game and hitting tab. In Wolfmame, I can change global setting so it accepts controlers like joysticks and the mouse but I don't know how to do that for what we are using here.

Re: controller
When you press Tab you have at the top of the list Input (general) and Input (this system)
If you go into Input (general) you will find Player 1 controls. Make sure you set this up and also make sure you set it up under Input (this system). I am assuming you are using Score mode.

Re: controller
Yes, always use score mode just in case I get a really good score.
I'll give what you are suggesting a try. Thanks.

Re: controller
Make sure the controller is plugged in before you load the game.
If still having problems make sure the controller is working by testing in Windows Control Panel. The xarcade controller works as a keyboard so you can test it in notepad and just make sure it types when you press a button.
Also, since the xrcade controller acts as a keyboard, you don't have to configure it in the emulator. Just set it to use the same keys as you keyboard. Example set button 1 on the xracade to Z and Start to Enter etc.

Re: controller
I am glad I converted an old SNES controller to USB a while ago. It is my favorite controller. I built a mame fightstick for other coin op games. It was an expensive build, but worth it if you are into mame.

Re: controller
The problem with SNES controllers is there are hardly any of them left that aren't defective in some way (at least in my experience).

Re: controller
Using the 360 controller is incredibly straightforward. That's great.
I think that for scrolling games it's better than the keyboard, for maze games and a little more precision one should enable the keypad.

I cannot use my afterglow xbox 360 controller wired on here anymore. It doesn't acknowledge it on any game. IT used to show up in the settings but it doesn't anymore. I've tested it tons of times and scoured google for this but I still can't figure out what is causing this. It worked fine for literally 2 years and then It stopped working randomly. Since I can't seem to find anything to search your forums I'm asking here because this is frustrating me to death.

Re: controller
Try rebooting.
Make sure it is plugged in before you launch the game.
Try a different usb port.
Check Windows Control Panel and make sure Windows is still recognizing it.

Re: controller
I've done all of the suggested things. I've tested and recalibrated the controller.. I'm using Windows 7 64-bit. If I try to play N64 gmes I get a MAIN_RICE_DAEDALUS error and a MAIN_MENU error.
SNES games just don't recognize the controller anymore and there's no option to set it up and no "Devices" under Input. Help! :/

I'm also unable to use my 360 controller. It used to work, no idea why it doesn't anymore.

Re: controller
Out of curiosity, the ones who are not able to use their usb joysticks anymore. Are you trying the ports directly connected to the motherboard, as well? I have a coolermaster haf case and 2 of the 4 usb fronts work but sometimes even those 2 good ones fail and i have to use ports directly connected to the motherboard.
You may seek out the drivers for xp. May help.
