NHL Thread
Let's talk about anything NHL in here.
Talk about what your favorite team is doing, goings on around the league, whatever.
----------------------------
The Blackhawks have signed Patrick Sharp to a 5 year extension and have locked up Toews, Kane, Sharp, Seabrook, Keith, and Hossa for a long time.
The Hawks have also brought in Ray Emery on a tryout basis

Add the Islanders to the short list of teams likely to be moving.
They need a new arena and it got shot down by the voters. Their lease expires in 2015 and they do not want to play in the Coliseum anymore

Geez, the Islanders keep on getting worse and worse lol. Rangers are alright though.

What do you expect from a team that puts the Gorton's fisherman on their jersey?

Re: NHL Thread
I wouldn't be disappointed to see the Islanders go, New York has 3 teams as it is, so not a huge deal. Besides, I think most of the focus is usually on the Buffalo Sabres and the New York Rangers.
Oilers have done nothing in the last month now since signing two AHL-quality players. Interesting signings for the oilers would be Ben Eager, Cam Barker, Ryan Smyth, and of course Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
Edit: It also sounds like the Oilers GM won't be keeping Sheldon Souray after their dispute a year ago where he wanted to leave the Oilers. He's a decent defense man, but if he wants to go, he can go. No point hanging onto someone who wants to leave that bad. Anyone heard if another team signed Souray yet? This was a while ago, but it still sounds like our GM might sign him back after all, doubtful, but it's possible.

Looking more in depth, we've had a lot of trades to Anaheim. I don't know why, but we always seem to be trading with them.
We traded Andrew Cogliano to Aneheim, Jeff Drouin Deslauriers, our third goalie is now in Aneheim through free-agency I believe. Jean-Fancoise Jaques is also now in Aneheim which kind of sucks. Zack stortini went to Nashville, oh well.
Nothing else even worth mentioning. Oh, and Souray went to Dallas I discovered.

Re: NHL Thread
The Islanders may not actually leave the state of New York, they are first considering moving to a different county.

Re: NHL Thread
and by that you mean canada? That's the only other country involved in the NHL league. I don't think they could move to the European leagues.

Re: NHL Thread
My bad, any speculation on where they might move to? My brother had the same comment, the Islanders have too much history to change to another team, and so they probably wouldn't let it happen. If anything, they just build a new rink in another section of New York.

I'm a hard core Sabres fan and I love the direction this team with new owner Terry Peguela is headed. I'm gonna say they are going to be a great contender for the Stanley this year!

Re: NHL Thread
@Bearhawk- I rather them move to a different county lol. Seems like no one on Long Island wants them anymore People are happy enough with the Rangers and Sabres.
It'd be smart if Brooklyn gets the Islanders. Then they would have Nets and Islanders. Nets aren't the greatest but Deron Williams sure is awesome and worth watching. So maybe a new stadium and location will be good for the Islanders. But then they'll have to change their names, since they won't be Islanders anymore XD

Re: NHL Thread
It's kind of sad about the Islanders. They were dominate in the early 80's and then fell off the face of the earth.
They don't have to change their name. If the Giants and Jets can call themselves NY while playing in NJ, the Islanders can keep their name.

Re: NHL Thread
True. Brooklyn Islanders sounds alright, unless they want to stick to New York Islanders. They'll probably keep the same name. It's still not very likely they go to Brooklyn anyway. There are other countys interested.

I think the better question is, what do you expect from a team that
has a mascot left over from a team that doesn't exist anymore?
It's painful to be an Islanders fan, in college the one time they
were aired on ESPN was when DiPietro was knocked out by Johnson.

Hmm... I wonder who put a stop to their almost 5 stanley cups in a row, oh who could that be? :P Just joking, in all honesty, you're right, but a lot of teams have kind of fell of the face of the earth it would seem.

Re: NHL Thread
There probably would have been a riot even if Vancouver had won, maybe not as big of won. There were people that went there solely because they wanted to riot, a lot of these people from washington state which is pretty pathetic that people just used that as an excuse to riot. Still though, I'm in agreement, that was pretty stupid.

Re: NHL Thread
I'm sure there was, people get like that when their beloved sports team loses. Pretty sure Edmonton rioted in 2006 as well, but that playoff series was just bull so it made more sense at least if rioting can ever even make sense.

Re: NHL Thread
New jersey Devils all the way baby! Although we have been seriously underachieving lately. For all the money we tried to give Kovalchuk, he should have 100 goals a season lolz.
