Underrated Games
Well, its nesplayer94. It's been a while since I've posted here, been focusing more on school for a while but since I have the time here, I thought I should post something that I've been wanting to post for a while. Does anyone here have any games they think are underrated? I have a couple so here's mine.
Journey to Silius (1990)

I thought that this was an awesome game because it didn't revolutionize anything or introduce any new concepts but it was a fun game. The bosses were great and each level is a challenge. I wish I can beat it here but I can't because my computer's been lagging for a while so the game keeps freezing and getting hard to play. Anyway, the music in this game is amazing and is some of the best I've heard on an 8-bit console. Well, got to go and eat dinner. See ya soon and please reply. It's great to be back

Re: Underrated Games
Hey TrakMastaTom I agree that the Dreamcast was an underrated system. It had some great games out for it and I actually thought it was better then the PS2 when it first came out. The graphics were amazing (for the time) and it was one of Sega's best outputs plus it gave us online play. I guess it was just to ahead of its time to be truly appreciated back in 1999.

Re: Underrated Games
For sports games Baseball Stars, in my opinion was a very underrated game. You can improve players, create your own players (I'm currently working on an all-star RU team ;D) It's a great game if you're into baseball.

Re: Underrated Games
I'm not sure all of you understand the meaning of underrated. It doesn't mean just a really good game. It is a good game that most people have never heard of. A game that deserves much more hype than it has received.
Example Shining Force, Phantasy Star, and Wonder Boy are all awesome Sega series but they are not underrated.
Out of This World - SNES & Genesis - puzzle adventure
The Immortal - NES, SNES & Genesis - puzzle adventure
Maoi Kun - NES - puzzle
De-Block - NES - puzzle drop
3D Tetris - Flash - 3d drop
Block Out - Genesis - 3d drop
American Gladiators - NES - button masher mini games
Binary Land - NES - puzzle
Buck Rodgers Countdown to Doomsday - Genesis (is not online) - RPG
Ninja Kun - NES - platform
Crash 'n The Boys - NES - street olympics
Ice Ice Hockey Challenge - NES - sports
Crue Ball - Genesis - pinball w/ rock
Rampart - Genesis & SMS - turn based strategy
Felix the Cat - NES - platform
Golden Axe Warrior - SMS - Adventure
are underrated, great games that not enough people have tried yet.

Re: Underrated Games
I'm not the only one that can play it. Sabby and someone else put up some good scores.
It just takes some practice. After you figure out the basics it gets a lot easier and very fun.

I'm not making fun of you here but, I don't understand what you mean.
EarthWorm Jim and Double Dragon are probably two of the least underrated games I can think of.(Besides Mario Bros and Sonic). Well maybe not Earthworm Jim but that was still highly popular when it came out(from my memory of it). Seriously though, Double Dragon? Everyone I know who even remotely likes that type of game LOVES it.
Kongs right, some of you aren't understanding the meaning here.

Again, this game was a big hit(also from my memory). Yeah it's awesome but not underrated.

It's not though, shining force was big. I remember people always comparing other RPGs to it.
Sorry to pick at these quotes but I can't help myself.
Hopefully Kong wasn't talking to me about the meaning of underrated. I think Areobiz and Legend of Kage are underrated. I'd like to add another, Uncharted Waters. I don't know for sure if many people know about it and it's one of my favorite games.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
It's not extremely underrated, it was just overshadowed by Ocarina of Time.
3 other underrated games are- Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, No More Heroes, and Duke Nukem: Zero Hour

Re: Underrated Games
Hm, another underrated game that comes to my mind at the moment right now is Metal Storm. I liked the idea of switching gravity and the difficulty is up there with all the Ninja Gaiden games. Basically it has the same kind of gravity device like Gravity Man from Mega Man 5 but Metal Storm came out two years before so I guess Capcom ripped off Irem, the company that made Metal Storm. It's a fun game and the graphics were pretty good. I would check it out if you like action games.

Re: Underrated Games
My vote goes to Klash Ball, a sports game set in the not so distant future. I have a feeling that people would either love or hate this game, but I personally loved it as a youngin'. It's a combination of hockey, football, soccer and basketball with a gritty, in-your-face, science fiction flair. Very fast paced and not easy to run through the entire league and to the championship game. Also a very cool, incentive based powerup system that is totally dependent on your performance in the game. The graphics are a little eh, but for the time I assume that they were pretty standard - you see the field from an overhead perspective in which the players in the game resemblings small robots darting around rather than humans in heavy metal padding. If you have a minute or two, I suggest giving this game a try.

Re: Underrated Games
You want to talk about underrated? Play the game Beyond Good and Evil and I guess im going to tell you guys about it and WARNING what im going to say is going to be longass so prepare to read.
Beyond Good and Evil is masterpeice of gaming and creativty, blended into one 10-12 hour experience, you will never forget. The creator of Rayman has offically outdone himself, by creating a game, I can easily call my favorite PS2 game...and beyond that?
An adventure game that beat off Legend of Zelda in any shape or form.
I could go into serious detail as to why this is one of the best games ever made, but many other people have already done so. What I will do, is tell you right now, while some games are great, they will often lose you at points...due to a storyline that looped one too many times or a very difficult part.
Beyond Good and Evil does not have this problem. The moment you start it, you will be sitting there, playing it till you beat it. You'll have no choice, as the game plays better then 90% of the games available on any console or the PC. You won't run into problems that kill the "zone" the game will pull you into, and belive me when I say...you are not coming out until the credits roll.
In fact, there are only two minor problems with this game. First off, due to horrible sales(average gamers are morons..more on this later), and the fact that it can be beat in about 10-12 hours on the first go.
Still, most games barely last longer, with the exception of RPGs...but RPG's are drawn out on purpose, with a random battle every minute or so. Zelda has the same issues, where if you weren't lost or fighting so much...or backtracking so often, you would be done much faster. Beyond Good and Evil eliminates problems like this, with intelligent puzzles, that are easy to solve(if you have a working brain), and the combat is easy on the hands, but fierce enough to keep you paying attention.
However, there is one other rough spot. A good chunk of this game, is spent doing the Solid Snake/Sam Fischer routine...hence, stealth based gameplay. In some ways, this could kill a game, but not Beyond Good and Evil, since it pulls that element off as flawlessly as it does everything else. It's not easy, but it's not insanely hard either.
Now, back to the average gamer thing I mentioned. When this game came out, they advertised it on TV, magazines and pro reviewers gave it outstanding, and remarkably high scores...and yet, not ONE PERSON really bought it. Why?
They were busy buying crap like Halo and Tomb Raider. I've said it a billion times, but I'll say it again. Not playing this game, is like never seeing a classic movie. It's like eating a sandwitch with no meat. Missing Beyond Good and Evil, is litterally a sin.
The production values, voice acting, characters, gameplay...it all adds up to be one of the best games you could ever own, and yet why do I feel like people are going to avoid it for no reason, other then it has no "sex and violence" appeal. Yeah, GTA was cool..but did it tell a story worth listening to? Nope. The reason I still see this game on store shelves for a mere 10 dollars used or new, is the same as I listed above. People buy crap.
Do yourselves and your console/PC a huge favor, and buy this game. If you buy it, and don't like it for a good reason, E-mail me, and I'll let you kick me in the nuts for recommending it. Yes, I'm willing to make that wager, because of all the people who have played it, only 5 I know didn't like it...and why?
They were Zelda fans. Zelda is, and has been dead people. This was set to be the new "Zelda", and it never got there(there were going to be two more BG&E games...not now though).
Final time I'm going to say it. You deserve to play this. It does not matter what kind of a gamer you are, if you like to play well crafted games, you'll enjoy this. If you like to play crap...then yeah, go play Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness or Halo 2...or whatever "pointless sex and violence" game you can find. Not saying I don't enjoy those kinda games, but Beyond Good and Evil is another league altogether.
The leauge of "Best games of all time"
I kinda feel like a fanboy saying this.

Re: Underrated Games
I have to say the most under rated series of all time is the Fire Emblem Series, its has riviting plots, exelent gameplay, and is only popular because of Super Smash Bros.
Its just like Final Fantasy (the old ones) with stratagy elements added.

Felix the cat is fairly underrated.
Bonanza brothers is inovative and underrated.

No, it's not popular in the US because it wasn't released here until recently. That's not our fault it's the company. It's that whole stupid thing where some asian game companies either don't like us or don't think we have good taste. It's pretty insulting.
