Undoubtly......it goes to George Carlin..................Just tell me one comedian that has influenced comedy more than Carlin...............IMPOSSIBLE!!!!! So what do you LOVE about Carlin?, as long as youre not 'trying' to put someone above Carlin......like you can........

You do realize that George Carlin was the first comedian to ever go up-onstage and just SPEAK......he was the first person to go up on-stage and just talk about stuff that pissed him off.......screw Richard Pryor......he was funny.....but he wasnt REVOLUTIONARY!!!!! Rest In Peace George.......Rest in peace.....

Re: Best Stand-Up Comedian
Why did you post seven times back to back and quote yourself? Quoting yourself is kinda weird but it's not really breaking the rules. Posting several times in succession like that is. I hate to be a hard ass about this but you have to stop doing that.
About favorite comedian I'd have to say it's Dave Chapelle.

I think the multi - post was an accident, DB.

Re: Best Stand-Up Comedian
Nah JG by the timestamps on his post it looks like those seven posts were over the course of about a half an hour. The double up he apologized for was a duplicate. Even without that it's still five consecutive posts.

Re: Best Stand-Up Comedian
Ah, I see now.
You're right.
Hey P13, are you shooting for a 'strawberry' icon or something?
- it's easier to get post count through natural conversation and way more fun, in my opinion.
Also I forgot the 'NSFW' tag on Russell Peters - DB please correct that for me.

I never liked Carlin much. He could be entertaining to watch at times but I think he is dilusional and never made me laugh.

Re: Best Stand-Up Comedian
I am of the direction that today's comedy was most widely influenced by the combined efforts of Carlin, Pryor, and Lenny Bruce. I believe on the Comedy Central list of greatest comics, it goes in the order of Pryor, Carlin, Bruce.

I've never been a fan of that arguement...we wouldn't have ps3 and the 360 without Pong...does that mean Pong is better than the current gen games? Not necessary. I'm not saying that Carlin is pong...he is more like SMB3 or Zelda:LTTP.
In addition to Carlin, comics that I have really enjoyed over the years have been Eddie Murphy (You are doing yourself a huge disservice if you don't listen to Raw and Delirious), Stephen Wright, Robert Schimmel, Dana Carvey, Louis CK, Mitch Hedberg, and Mitch Fatel.

Wrong. Mort Sahl was probably the first, at least the first famous comedian to make his entire career out of just talking instead of jokes with punch-lines. There were several other that also started before Carlin such as Lenny Bruce, Bob Newhart, Bill Cosby.

Enough, I just find that I can follow along fine at first, then he kinda escalates to a point where I can no longer relate. And he never makes me laugh, he's more of a motivational speaker imo.

Re: Best Stand-Up Comedian
I don't find him funny really. Not big on ventriloquists anyways but he doesn't seem to be that good at it. I totally see his mouth moving. That and his characters are all stereotypes, but that may be the point.

Re: Best Stand-Up Comedian
I like Jeff Dunham (probably because I'm 14 and laugh at nearly everything )
@DB- Yeah. They're sort of supposed to be stereotypical. His Hillbilly American puppet drinks beer and watches Nascar and is stupid. Achmed, self explanatory.

I guess I'm a minority on Dunham, but another funny guy is Daniel Tosh.
He's such a smartass, but that's what makes him so funny.

Re: Best Stand-Up Comedian
Concerning Robin Williams, his energy is what makes him a solid comic. He is notorious though for plagiarizing and poaching jokes from other comics.

Re: Best Stand-Up Comedian
Big fan of Cosby's stuff. I also like Carlin, Williams (I agree with the energy aspect, probably the cocaine talking) and Steven Wright. Many of the others listed above I have enjoyed also.
One recent comedian I have really enjoyed is Gabriel Inglesias (The Fluffy Guy).

I have been listening to some comedy bits on Pandora lately with him, and they make me laugh a lot.
