Teacher punches student in the face, no charges
You heard right. She punched the teen in the face several times and the police are not charging her because they feel she was acting in self defense. The school may still discipline her though.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpOKihp_5AI"]YouTube - ‪Florida high school art teacher punches student; Sandra Hadsock, 64, in Hernando County‬‏[/ame]
Caught on Cam: FL Teacher Punches Student - WLBT 3 - Jackson, MS:
I'm glad she's not being charged and I'm glad that punk got a suspension. Before his little friends started recording the scene the punk was screaming and calling her obscene names. Once the tape rolled he was obviously threatening while towering over her. She warned him to back up and instead he feigned forward like he was going to punch her. Btw she's 67 and last year she won teacher of the year, she's not some loose cannon who's new to teaching.
I'm not saying teachers should be allowed to hit students but when a teacher is threatened in such a menacing way I feel they have every right to defend themselves, like any normal citizen would. Notice how not one kid tried to help the teacher? She had no choice.

Re: Teacher punches student in the face, no charges
It's not that related, because your story gives no motive(and no real info anyways). If he was defending himself then he crossed the line by picking up a weapon.
Second article doesn't help much either. They need to write better articles with some actual info. All I got out of this was the the teacher is an idiot, this was an accident and the school was completely stupid by not calling an ambulance asap.

Well it's kinda related, but only because a teacher hit a student. It's missing the point of why I brought this up though. My story was about a justified example. It's all good I'm just clarifying.

Wow, I would not want to get in the ring with that teacher...
But seriously, what's wrong with teenagers? I'm 14 and I can't see how people do completely idiotic things like this. Jeez...

Re: Teacher punches student in the face, no charges
I've seen many a student go after a teacher at the school I work it seems to me it's just pride. I think in there twisted logic it's like "I will show this teacher not to mess with me that I'm better then him" and that it will show that he a big guy on campus.

It's less twisted than you think. Humans this age are coming to the time when they generally desire an alpha status and I'd figure that behaviors for males would be determined by how they cope with taking orders and performing tasks for other people.

Re: Teacher punches student in the face, no charges
Part of the problem is the lack of accountability. When I was in school you'd be pretty much expelled for assaulting a teacher, even verbally. You might get a second chance but you might not. Now it's just ridiculous. They have zero tolerance between students, teachers have no power to discipline but students can treat teachers pretty badly and go unpunished. Obviously not all schools are like that but more and more I keep hearing about how powerless the teachers have become and how unwilling the schools are to back them up. We coddle too much, kids need a heavy dose of reality.

It really amazes me that he'd act like that to a woman in the first place. I know chivalry is dead but last I heard it's still not ok for dudes to treat women like that. She may not look like the typical old lady but she really is almost 70 and obviously much less capable of defending herself than he was. What a coward. I hope one of his peers knocks him out off school grounds to teach him a lesson.

Whining, crying kids with their whining, crying parents.
I deal with 18 and 19 year olds all of the time, whenever I run across some d-bag, I generally wonder where they get it from and in some situations, I have to speak to their parents. 9/10 times, I instantly realize where the d-bagness comes from.
When I was in the 10th grade, my biology teacher hit me with a thrown pinecone. Did I threat to sue? No, because I deserved it. Now, trash kids with their trash parents threaten to sue every chance they get.

Re: Teacher punches student in the face, no charges
I graduated high school five years ago, and it seems the culture has already changed quite a bit. You'd never see some kid's parents threaten to sue over trivial things, let alone attacking a teacher when I was going through.
Good for that lady, as long as it was self-defense. The last thing kids need is to be surrounded by doormats.

They were allowed to hit us with paddles on the butt when I was a kid. Some teachers would drill wholes into the paddle to make it hurt more. Do they still do that anywhere?

The strap was in effect when I started school, my principal had a little statue dipicting a crying kid that held the strap. I think every form of physical punishment is gone.

Now THAT sounds like a conspiracy.
You're with Napolitano's Gestapo, aren't you?
Seriously though I believe what we're looking at here is a growing problem with kids in general; they know their future is uncertain {to say the very least} and they're absolutely right.
You guys are right when you suggest there's an increasingly poor attitude towards what these 'kids' should be allowed to get away with and I agree that most often the problem kids are children of former problem kids, like the former bullies who teach their kids to become bullies because that's how they coped with being in school.
But you're not allowed to say anything about the little turds because they're somebody's little angel who is 'too young to understand the consequences of their actions'.
I'm not joking when I say that it is that exact situation that brought us the 'Kids Can Kill' {KCK} gang of Vancouver, who literally live up to their name and members who commit murders cannot even have their name published in newspapers because it may threaten their future.
But getting back to the story at hand:
Most of the kids in gangs here in British Columbia say they joined because there is a better future with the gang than if they went to school and pursue a career.
I think that simple fact alone speaks volumes on this Teacher punching situation and its true cause.
The {older kids} know our 'elected officials' AREN'T.
They know economic institutions such as Federal Reserves and the currencies they issue are fraudulent and support a system designed to deteriorate into total Despotism.
{Fractional Reserve Banking}
They know the reasons given for current 'kinetic Military actions' {wars} are not exactly as stated and are often to achieve goals such as seizing resources of other countries while the official narrative is 'to fight the War on Terror' or the 'War on Drugs'.
and even if they aren't so acutely aware of Global politics they know that the 'game' is fixed and even if they do act like good little boys and girls and go to College or University they'll end up in perpetual debt in the pursuit of better careers.
I know this may seem to be one of my standard rants about these things but I see this situation {Teacher being taunted into a fight} as a symptom of the same disease the Banksters are infecting the World with.
OF COURSE the kids are going to be discontent with going to schools to learn .... what?
How to become perpetually in debt through student loans in order to 'qualify' for job positions they aren't likely going to get and end up working at McD's or Wal Mart while trying to get by and pay off those same loans?
Do you know how many 'professional students' there are here in Vancouver who hold several Certificates and often PhD's that got them nowhere, and because they can't get the job they were after go on to take out more and more student loans in an unending cycle?
I'm not defending these kids that did this but when you look at the overall situation I see many factors that breed contempt toward authority figures of which Teachers are among the first we encounter in life.
It was wrong what happened but in today's World it's not surprising.

Re: Teacher punches student in the face, no charges
@Kong- I think all the punishments are outlawed in the US now. Even when I was a kid a teacher couldn't touch a student, but I live in one of the most liberal states in the US. I forget where but you said you grew up in the south right? That explains why you were still getting paddled.
@JG- I think you're giving these kids too much credit. It's not about their questionable futures or w/e, it's about being spoiled rotten. The kid in the video threw a fake punch like guys would do when they're about to really start fighting. To get to the level where you think that's ok to do to an authority figure says more about the way the kids are raised. If I did something like that around my parents I would've regretted it. My mom wouldn't even have to hit me to hurt me, my dad would've though.
@steven- I got busted for shoplifting when I was in high school and my dad asked the judge if he could kick me in the ass and he said it was fine. I thought it was a joke until we got outside.

Texas and Oklahoma. I know the high school principle was still giving swats in Oklahoma in 1993.

Re: Teacher punches student in the face, no charges
DB, and the rest of you:
I agree that the total lack of discipline is what feeds actions such as taunting a Teacher like they did; if there were some fear of authority or the possibility of consequences it's possible they may not have done it but like you guys are saying those days are gone and no one is allowed to hit kids anymore even when they are behaving poorly.
Teachers and even Janitors used to hit or kick us when we needed it to show us that there is a line of behavior that should not be crossed.
Perhaps those slaps and kicks would land someone in jail nowadays but it sure gave us a physical reminder of where that line lays so we wouldn't cross it again.
I think the first step to a real solution is in the realization that the World is different than it used to be and therefore the kids aren't the same as we used to be either.
Yes there are a lot of cocky little turds running around who probably would benefit from a sound beating when they step out of line, and that's what I've been hearing from the Baby Boomer generation for decades now - that they believe the real problem lies in the fact that kids nowadays do not understand what pain is, so naturally inflicting it on others comes very easily to them.
But I must disagree that it is due to being 'spoiled' {although I can tell you from personal observation that rich kids do act out a lot} and I believe that the problem is a symptom of a much larger issue as I suggested above.
What I said was rather incoherent and so here's a video that really sums up what I was trying to say about how the World situation is likely to be a large influence on youth angst and rebellion:
Quote:
|
'... 60 Minutes, they did this show about all these guys and girls with College degrees - they can't get a job doing anything, even being a Janitor ... and if the educational system was worth anything do you think we'd be in the problem that we have now?'
|

But I suppose someone will label Gerald as 'one of those Conspiracy Theorists'.

Re: Teacher punches student in the face, no charges
A majority of youth now feel they are entitled. There is no accountability for actions, no work ethic, no responsibility. It is sad, they think they are going to have everything handed to them, and then end up on a reality show.
In my opinion, kid got what he deserved. Unfortunately, the teacher will probably get sued by the parents.

Re: Teacher punches student in the face, no charges
@JG- There is definitely a good portion of kids being raised with no accountability and no discipline, no far reaching theories needed. All you need to do is go to a restaurant or movie theater and look at how out of control the kids are. I was out to eat tonight and all around me kids were just making tons of noise and pretty much doing whatever they wanted. A couple kids were well behaved but some didn't shut up the whole time and kept getting up and moving around. My parents aren't even that strict and they would've told us to sit down and shut up.
@Sabby- There was already talk of a lawsuit. But I like to think that a judge or jury would side with the 70 year old teacher vs the young punk who was threatening her on camera.

Agreed, he was all bowed up and so in her face that I think any decent judge would rule in her favour, and hopfully send the kid to do some community service.
