Looking for a camera

I'm planning a trip with Mrs. 3000 and was wondering if anyone knows a thing or two about cameras. I want something that can zoom in and take a clear picture of something at least 100 yards away. I'm leaning towards a digital camera as opposed to film, but if there are significant advantages to the film, I might be interested. I'm willing to spend six to seven hundred bucks on a good camera.

These are the Ferrari's of cameras. Generally, they are cameras for professionals. Some of their lower end, high octane models will fall in your price range. I think the camera they push on consumers is the CoolPix model, of which they have a tradional digital camera (think college girl with a camera at a party) and something that looks a bit more practical.

Of the higher end model, this bad boys is solid.

Nikon also has a bunch of film camera, I would poke around on the site, see what you like.

Thanks Jim! The D3100 and D3000 are great and at the right price range. It even has 3000 in the name.
