Happy birthday! getting a wii

I'm getting my kid a Wii for his birthday this February and was wondering if you all have any games that you could recommend. He's going to be 10 and likes games like Plants vs Zombies and Galaga type games. Platforms are also to his liking but he has difficulty with it if it's too challenging. I've never owned a Wii so I have no idea what's out there.

you have a point there buddy. But first I'm getting him a game he'll enjoy. Later on I'll get something that the entire family can enjoy playing together and something for the Mrs and I like wii fit or something like that.

Kirby's Epic Yarn is really easy and relatively good. I compare it to yoshi's story that way, good but easy.

New super mario bros would be good too, especially for you

Super Smash Brothers Brawl would be good to buy. i you get a game for yourself later on go for Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn.

Anyone play Little Big Planet? I also saw the trailer for A Boy and his Blob. It looks amazing.

I would certainly go for A Boy and His Blob. It's very moving and wonderfully plays on your nostalgia while crafting a beautiful, heart-felt new game. It has a designated hug button after all. My 6 year-old loved it as much as I did. He even started to cry during the ending.

Kirby's Epic Yarn offers great co-op and you can't die in it which will allow him to keep up with his dad and let you kick back and relax letting him do most of the work. The art design is absolutely fantastic and the story is read to you just as if it was a bedtime story.

For tower defense games like Plants vs. Zombies I would go with Crystal Defenders or Beaver Defense, both on wiiWare.

How about Animal crossing? It's one of those love it or hate it kinda games but I think it would be a fun game for a family to play together. Well, play in the same town at least, there's no actual simultaneous multiplayer.

@DB, I would advise him to go for a used copy of the gc game. AC: City Folk really doesn't sit nearly as well with me or anyone I've talked to really but it's still alright. It would be a simple game you can't really lose but City folk for say 40 bucks vs. the gamecube one for 5 bucks, the choice is obvious imo.

Maybe check out Boom Blox, it's a physics game about bringing down various stacks of blocks, I had a blast and everyone I know who has played agrees it's uber fun.

As far as I'm aware the main problem with City Folk is how similar it is to the previous games. They did add new stuff and improve other stuff but it really feels like a minor expansion and not a full game. That being said, I think it's better to go with the newer version since it has more stuff.

Btw what was taken out? I know there's no NES games anymore but other than that I have no idea what's different. Not a huge AC fan.

If he is a fan of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Batman, or Harry Potter, I would recommend the Lego series for the boy.

Boom Blox gets the thumbs up as well. Can also be played as a drinking game after hours.

I already got him Lego HP for his PC for Christmas. Fun game.

well, they really took a step up sort of with the ds one expanding your house something like 12 times but then they jumped back down to 5 house expansions. Both the DS and the Wii versions are very dull also. I'm no expert either but I've played them all, probably about 30 hours into the ds one, 10 hours into the wii version and 100+ hours into the gc one. I could never get into the newer ones and a lot of hardcore fans (yeah, they exist lol) agree that GC was the best.

You're missing the point. I'm not saying the Wii version is better I'm just saying it's basically the GC version with some more content. Can you agree with that? I've played the GC and the Wii version and I see it that way.

I was into it for the DS for a few weeks before the thoughts of "What the heck am I playing this for?" set in. It's one redeeming quality was that me and my GF shared a house, and it was fun to see what the other person had been up to. I should check in on my world after 2 years of neglect, the game might be more like Diablo now.
