Scientists have created an ultra-fast computer chip which is 20 times faster than current desktop computers.
Modern PCs have a processor with two, four or sometimes 16 cores to carry out tasks.
But the central processing unit (CPU) developed by the researchers effectively had 1,000 cores on a single chip.

Imagine a data center with 5000 of these bad boys !

This article doesn't sound too reliable.

For one it sounds like all hype, and the picture of the woman and its subtitle contributes nothing to the article.

The developments could usher in a new age of high-speed computing in the next few years for home users frustrated with slow-running systems.

Compared to what modern computer? Doing what processing, 5GB worth of 2+2 statements? They should have run a benchmark instead of tossing out such vague figures.

Well, they get away with the same vagueness when they talk about new cars, don't they?
0 - 60 mph in X seconds means very little; are we talking about an armor plated Hummer with a powerful engine, or an extremely compact, lightweight Smart car?
