Re: Official Countdown Part 2
I played the Kinect over at a friends house. It actually worked better than I thought. Controls I thought were very responsive and smooth. The facial recognition was pretty sweet.
I played Kinect Adventures and Fighters Uncaged. I thought both were fun and played really well.
I don't think the kinect will revolutionize gaming, I still think we are a generation or 2 away from putting away controllers permanently, but it is a cool little toy to play with. The biggest problem I have is that I wouldn't play kinetic by myself, it is like rock band or guitar hero, it is better when you play with friends.

Re: Official Countdown Part 2
Much, much better. eye toy on steroids.
It isn't perfect, it is my understanding that some of the games break, but I would attribute that more towards soddy programming.
Space can be an issue, you will need at least the area of a small car in front of your tv for it to be effective.

I demoed Playstations motion control. I played Frisbee Golf and Ping Pong. The demo games sucked too bad for me to tell if it was good or not.
I still prefer this

Re: Official Countdown Part 2
I played through Kinect demos at the football pre-game events.
It actually does work. It was strange holding onto an invisible steering wheel but the game had no trouble telling which way I wanted to go.
I was impressed by the flexibility of the unit--people of all shapes and sizes played on the same unit with no trouble.
I gotta say, Microsoft sure knows how to market their stuff. Demo events like these are what really can drum up support for a product.

Re: Official Countdown Part 2
I'm glad to hear Kinect is better than people first thought. If it works smoothly it'll be better than the motion controls from the Wii/PS3 imo. I like the idea but using a motion controller still feels weird and restricted.

Re: Official Countdown Part 2
True that. Like I said, I don't think the tech is there yet, plus the gaming community isn't ready to give up the controller yet.
BTW

Re: Official Countdown Part 2
I agree with some of the sentiments here about this kind of control feeling weird.
Not to mention all that extra exercise some people would have to do to use it may make it less attractive. (Though this didn't hurt the Wii that much.)
I can remember a few years ago there was this arcade game where it used motion control to detect and it was a boxing game. There were a lot of people who could get past the first boxer maybe the second, but by the third boxer they couldn't go on as they were huffing and puffing. They would lose because they were tired. I wonder if that would be a factor with this controller.

Funny. Can we also make bets on how soon Nintendo comes out with some new gimmick to try to distract attention from Kinect?

When is the new DS supposed to come out...or is it already out?
Either way, I don't think Nintendo is too worried about the Kinect and the PS thing.

Re: Official Countdown Part 2
I think they're at least concerned about it. Motion controls are one of the main selling points for the Wii. If Microsoft and Sony match or beat them there then all they have is a brand name and exclusives that only nintendo fans care about.

Re: Official Countdown Part 2
I don't think it will hurt N at all. Everyone who wanted a motion controlled system has already bought a Wii by now. The vast majority of the casual market aren't going to pick up a PS360 for $400 just so they can have motion control games in HD now. The hardcore crowd isn't interested in motion control gaming. All that's left to buy these things are the fanboys.

I thought that too at first but now it seems a lot people are deciding to give it a shot. I know a bunch of people who got the Move and they are liking it so far. No one got Kinect yet though, we lazy.

Re: Official Countdown Part 2
I'm guessing sales for the first week or 2 will be decent but abysmal overall. Most people will hold out for at least a few good games, and when they never arrive kinect will be shelved permanently.
I seriously doubt Nintendo gives 2 craps about how it works. They've been leading the way in this industry for so long now, that they know it doesnt matter what the competetors do, it only matters what they do.
