Yabba Dabba Doo! 'The Flintstones' Turns 50

(Sept. 30) -- Everyone's favorite modern Stone Age family and friends are celebrating their golden anniversary. "The Flintstones," America's first prime-time animated sitcom, first aired on ABC-TV on Sept. 30, 1960.

For six years, the show almost everyone thought was an animated imitation of "The Honeymooners" entertained not just kids, but primarily adults. And that was the point of the Hanna-Barbera production -- to create a more adult-styled cartoon.

One of my favorite cartoons. I was introduced to that from several sources as a kid.

I never really liked Flintstones and I never really got why people liked it so much. In the 60s it was a big deal but when I was a kid it was old garbage and nothing compared to something like Thundercats.

It's not going to be too long before Jetsons turns 50. We had two Flintstones specials at one point: I Yabba Dabba Do and its follow-up, Hollyrock-A-Bye Baby. Those were the last that the Flintstones creators ever did together.

You know it's not hard to figure out if you already know my age right? But, I was an 80s kid. I grew up with all those awesome games and cartoons.

Sometimes people like to do the decade before them as well. Wasn't an insult I was actually curious.

I like the Flintstones but it gets old fast.

I loved the episodes with the scary neighbors or who ever they were.

Ahhhh, the memories. I loved the Flintstones when I was a kid. I remember when they met the Gruesomes and I remember when they met the Jetsons as well. That was one of the first cartoons I introduced my kids to when they got old enough.

Happy bday Flintstones! :P I watch this on Boomerang sometimes, I remember watching re-runs when I was reallly young. Google has something on the Flintstones, that's why I knew it was today.

It's funny. They used to have two Flintstones themed amusement parks here where I live but they are both long gone now. Used to love going to them as a kid. Especially the one in Kelowna.

I always liked The Flintstones. Why, you ask? Because... "They're a modern stone age family."

Actually, I grew up watching them nearly every day after school. There was always some channel playing them during the afternoon.

I know that after a while the episodes can seem to be a bit repetitive, but for me it's like coming home to see old friends. I just never tire of watching Fred get dumped out of the window by their sabre-toothed tiger/house cat.

Now, to turn on the tv and see (nearly any time of the day) The Flintstones playing somewhere, on some channel always leaves me feeling a bit nostalgic.

With that said, and even though I like The Fnintstones, my favorite toon of all time would probably have to be...
