Help, Virus Foxbanker.a
either called that or Firebanker.a
anyways, was on laptop doing updates to CT (important to note I just opened up chrome and I DID NOT download anything) when this stupid anti virus thing pops up and starts scanning. Knowing from RU it has to be a virus I try to rid of it to no avail. Ask my Mom... she helped me but it's still there BUT THE ISSUE IS it's only affecting my main username, MegamanX (I'm on my Mom's file right now) now I don't know what to do, I installed AVG 9 (up til now I had 8.5 because my Mom said 9 gave a virus so I didn't update it) and that didn't work but interesting enough, it marked Asda story (game me, DB, Tenser and others played) as a virus, prompting me to think DB might've gotten the same crap I did because I know he has a virus on his main comp. Anyways I really really need help knowing what to do, I dunno if this is gods way of saying get a new computer you dumbass or what. I think it's malware I read on AVG.com something about AVG never acknowledging the virus or something. Is it Malwarebytes I should try?
This just really sucks and such a HORRIBLE day for it to happen. I had plans tonight looking for Sailor Moon toons on CT (released tonight) as a friend really loves Sailor Moon (comparable to me and Megaman) and wants a lot of multiples. I already pmed my friend on CT about the issue all I want is to get this damn thing fixed. I can safely say though, I've had this since Dec. 2007 and this is the first Virus I have ever gotten. I am a pussy when downloading stuff, but I do know I did NOT download this damn thing.
If you need any other questions or w/e just say it, I'll use MSN on the PS3 to at least stay in contact if anyone wants to help (Seahawk/Kong?). Thank you.

Sorry to hear that Tailsy. I had something similar happen on one of my computers recently. I don't have the technical expertise that Kong or Hawk do, but have you tried reading this thread?
http://retrouprising.com/support/hel...-virus/t10001/
Kongger and Hawk had some suggestions in there that might help.

In my case, I didn't have to buy anything. After starting in safe mode, the infected files could be removed.

Re: Help, Virus Foxbanker.a
I mean were you told to buy stuff from the virus? I was told by Taco (friend and mod on CT) to use Malewarebytes and if it didn't work he'd buy me a new computer.
All I fear is if that Kaito image screwed it up.

That's what the virus said. It said it was virus protection and started the auto scan. I had to restart the PC in safe mode and then remove the bad files.

Re: Help, Virus Foxbanker.a
Well malwarebytes worked, but I cannot access the net..
---------- Post added at 02:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:18 PM ----------
MSN works though but FF/IE say it's connected to a proxy that blocked it. Running a scan in regular mode
---------- Post added at 03:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:19 PM ----------
Wanted to say I was downstairs HRing, and my Mom called me upstairs and she fixed the internet problem, virus messed with the settings. All before midnight tonight!

Re: Help, Virus Foxbanker.a
That's rough, Tails. I've seen my fair share of similar kinds of viruses.

Re: Help, Virus Foxbanker.a
I've had so many viruses lately it's not funny, mostly Trojan horse types, a few that share their names with important system files. Nothing that's caused too big a harm.
Your best bet to removing a virus is finding out where it is stored on the computer, then using the command line to delete it, you may have to be in safe mode.

1. Some viruses infect other files on your computer turning them into viruses.
2. A false positive is when an antivirus program mistakenly identifies a file as a virus even if it is not. This happens fairly often.
3. Asda could be a virus, but that is very unlikely. The first two are much more likely explanations.
My advice is the same as in the other thread.
First. Run housecall (link in other thread)
Second. Run your antivirus.
Third. Install and run a 30 day free trial of a good AV such as Trial versions - G Data Software AG
Try doing that from Safe Mode with Networking. Repeatedly press F8 while your computer is starting up to enter Safe Mode.
Getting a virus has nothing to do with how good your computer is.

Re: Help, Virus Foxbanker.a
Malware bytes worked Kong (on MMX now), but I do know what you mean. I wouldn't dare taking anything with me if this didn't work. Basically the virus was labeling everything as infected too.
I just spent at least 8 hours working on it, got all windows update, ran avg and Malewarebytes twice, both did not pick up anything. I am seeing an error that Malewarebytes is being blocked at startup though.
Housecall really that good?

Re: Help, Virus Foxbanker.a
It is good, but the best part is it is just that it is different, not a typical antivirus. Good viruses will disable most antivirus software. Because housecall is not a typical antivirus they generally do not do anything to disable it so it can often be the only thing that still works.

Re: Help, Virus Foxbanker.a
Free right? I'll probably get it then.
Btw, do you know why it's blocking malwarebytes at start up? I don't wanna edit anything or allow unless I am sure.

Re: Help, Virus Foxbanker.a
Asdastory isn't a virus it's just a really lame program that gives a false positive, happened to me to. Either way you should just delete it entirely.

Didn't your main comp get taken down by a virus though?

Re: Help, Virus Foxbanker.a
Yeah but I had issues with that before and during asdastory. That's actually why I stopped playing, my PC was too messed up to run it.

DB/Kong know why Malwarebytes is blocked from startup yet it says enabled?
I should get that house call

Re: Help, Virus Foxbanker.a
Kong, why is this blocked? It's not listed as blocked, and it pops up after start up.
Note: The red was just IM's I didn't want people's msns to be posted here.

I don't know what Malwarebytes is or what is blocking it or why.

This is actually what caught my attention. I had a similar problem with some virus on my gf's computer. The virus popped up as a virus software scan, I didn't know what she was running on her computer so I assumed that it was her anti virus program. Next thing I know is that at start up, the desktop was bare and when I managed to get a malware program onto the computer (via junk drive) it wouldn't let me open it. I did so by making sure to run the program as the administrator, worked ok after that. Moral of the lesson, don't look at porn on your gf's computer.

lmao nice. Dunno how I got this, but after thinking about it, about a few weeks ago, I turned on my comp, signed in and went to the rest room, came back and it said I have successfully downloaded something. I did not, I was in the toilet, and my brother is too dumb to even use a computer without stuff bookmarked. So I was assuming it was hidden and then activated at that time.
@SFF: AVG 9.0 and housecall probably.

Re: Help, Virus Foxbanker.a
AVG's probably blocking it as a virus even though it's not one
