Re: Team Contest IV - Tournament I
It sucks if we lose this way but at least it would give EC thier first win.

Re: Team Contest IV - Tournament I
Grumpy Old Men will not ask for nor would we accept either a tie breaker or an extension. We'll play by the rules set forth and let the chips fall where they may.
That being said, even though both party's stances are equivalent, I am disheartened that a decision was made before we were allowed to weigh in.

Re: Team Contest IV - Tournament I
Wouldn't of mattered what you said. I was only giving GOM a chance to accept an offer that EC gave. If EC didn't make an offer, which they didn't besides the tie, then there was nothing you could say. I wasn't going to make a ruling against EC on this.

Re: Team Contest IV - Tournament I
apparently, it is water under the bridge at this point, but my 2 cents
the debate earlier concerning cassidy's status. in that situation, there was a call for a substition in the championship bracket, in which games had already been played. i know at least one game had been played because i did the vicious breed thing and submitted a score while the debate was still on about gom having their whole team on the same side of the bracket, in essense hoping to render that argument void by having a score in so the brackets couldn't be reseed.
in this case, a new tournament has been started, in which no scores have been submitted yet. subs would obviously be a no-no based on the previous precedent. also, it was admitted that the semis of balloon fight did untentionally go long, past the 1 week timetable that was set forth at the beginning. tanc should have had time to submit some scores if the semis went according to schedule.

Re: Team Contest IV - Tournament I
Kong,
What is the current status of the Joust team tournament? I was trying to play another turn on Thursday evening when my game locked up and it would not let me submit any more scores. However, I have not received a PM or any notifications that the tournament has finished. Did it officially end? Did tanc24 ever log in?
Regarding the Balloon Fight tournament, I did receive a PM on that game stating that I was disqualified, even though I submitted all five turns.

i think you won the whole thing. tanc went out of the country and ec won the joust tourney by forfeit.

Gamenguru and EC Win. Sorry for not being more on top of it during this contest. I will make this official and divvy up the prizes and stuff later tonight.
Feel free to start leaving feedback on what you thought of this particular contest. I personally think it did not go as well as the others.

Re: Team Contest IV - Tournament I
personally, i thought it went ok, considering it was the first tourney since the site update. with the tournament organization, there are 3 points that i didn't like. 1. concerning the finals, there needs to be a way to seed the players so teammate don't face each other until the last possible time. 2. the time limits need to be observed a little bit better. that probably cost gom as the semis of the finals went long, tanc could have been able to submit a score in the tiebreak if everything stayed on schedule. 3. also, balloon fight is a potentially farmable game, farmability needs to be checked before a game is selected.
was balloon fight ever determined to be farmable or no?
i know at least two teams had difficulty filling their rosters with players that actually wanted to play. team expansion might be troublesome.

Re: Team Contest IV - Tournament I
I thought it went okay for the first time, but I also think there were some challenges too:
1) Having a game with a score cap in the final really isn't a good idea. I don't think Balloon Fight is realistically farmable, and should not be marked as such, but with the score cap, it shouldn't have been used for the final tournament. Maybe a bit more research could be employed next time around in choosing the final. Maybe have more people vote on what the final game would be (maybe include Game Mods to have more input). This is a fairly easy area to fix.
2) Tighter time schedules on the tournament. I agree with you Jim, that the tournament would have ended awhile back if things ended a bit more on time. Things just happen sometimes Kong. It's one of those things. Also if some of the tourney glitches get a little more ironed out, this would probably help speed things up as well.
3) In the tournament system, is there a way to hide the score of the person who is eliminated as well as the one who advances? I think this would eliminate some problems.
Also, is there a way to not have the tournament send out a notification of win/loss until each player had played 5 turns? I have noticed stalling is somewhat encouraged by the fact that the tourney system sends someone a PM if they have not beat their opponents score after 5 tries.
4) Winning by forfeit is definitely not the first choice. I know there really wasn't a fair way to avoid it in this one, but I think we should talk about the idea of substitutions and how this might work if this is an option for the future.
5) There seem to be more players that are interested in joining teams. I know some of our teams had some scheduling conflicts this time around and may need to readjust some teams, but I think there are plenty of players out there who would be down with teams.
What I did like:
1) Even with glitches the new tournament module is much better than the one on the old site, and more automated.
2) The competition level was very high. I enjoyed competing with you all. I have never seen a tournament with so much drama and so many ties. It was fun.

We need to have tournaments where a Site Mod can advance and alter it if the admin is away for one reason or another.

Re: Team Contest IV - Tournament I
Some things I observed about this particular tournament (from a some-what outside observer's perspective):
1. This contest seemed to be more of an individual contest then a team contest. It could have been pulled off with individual members with out team designation.
2. Time constraints were not enforced, I was just as guilty as any mod for not looking into and assisting in the process to keep the flow of the tournament going.
3. As for the choice of the game, the site mods had no idea that there was a cap on the game at the time it was selected. We also didn't realize that it was going to be obtained. Amazing skills on the part of the finalists.
4. As for the substitutes, I think the way it was handled was fine. That is why you have to be careful who you allow on your team. Life happens, you can't let an online contest hold you back, just remember "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." quote Ferris Bueller. Maybe a "bench system" could be added for such items, not a substitute, but for people who know they will be gone.
That's what I saw, hope it helps for next time.

Hey everyone, I'm back! Had an awesome time in Pamplona, although I'm really disappointed we weren't able to postpone the tiebreaker.
I totally understand the rules, so fair's fair. On what game system was the Joust tiebreaker to be played? Just curious...
5cents touched on the point that was my only gripe. The time constraints weren't closely regulated, which caused the tournament to run long. Had things stayed on schedule, I would've had time to take on Guru in Joust. Understanding that everyone has crazy schedules, it's not that big of a deal, but it definitely cost GOM a shot at winning the tournament.
In a perfect world, we should've been able to postpone the final tiebreaker.
Other than that, I really like this tournament format. There were obvious glitches with the AOX scoring system, but we all worked through it. I'm still jetlagged, or else I'd give more feedback.
Congrats to EC for the tourney win! (even if it does come with an asterix ;D)

Glad you had a good trip. Sorry that the timing turned out so lousy.

Thanks, Tanc. (See "asterix" below.)
*We didn't face off in the tiebreaker, but I don't think either of us really had anything left to prove in this final round.

Re: Team Contest IV - Tournament I
I have given all of Eternal Champions this badge and Winnebagel all of the contest tickets. He can do whatever he wants with them - give them to the evenly to the team or all to the MVP or sell them or save them for the next contest.
I updated the team stats page. http://retrouprising.com/competitions.php. Take a look at the individuale team pages, the tournament page and the ladder pages.

Hey Tanc, welcome back. I hope you enjoyed lovely Spain, and hopefully you were okay in all the bull action.
Thanks for the congrats. I feel like you and GOM showed yourselves to be champions too. We definitely need to have another battle down the road. You and the other teams gave us a really tough fight.
Even with some glitches, I really enjoyed the contest. There was more drama than anyone contest I have seen. Let see here, just between GOM and EC we had more ties than I have ever seen on RU before:
1st) we tied in number of bonus games completed.
2nd) we tied in Dice for the first time in the history of that game I believe.
3rd) You and I were within 9 points of each other in the dice final (not to mention earlier 5cents and I were less than one screen's worth of points apart in Donkey Kong).
4th) You and Gamenguru tied in Balloon Fight. The too bad tournament system can't handle a tie situation in a bracketed tournament, as I feel like you both won that one.
You guys (and EC of course) rock! VB had a good showing too, as did Cam from Mega Men. Nice Team Contest one and all. I look forward to seeing what the next one will hold.
