I think the key word here is "nocturnal." I'm guessing that if I saw the moon out faintly during the day, I could block it out with an extended index finger. And maybe, if it were possible for the Sun to be out while it was dark out, I might not be able to block it out with that same extended finger.

I'm guessing it has to do with the amount of light in the sky at a given time...either that or the fact that one is a source, and the other is a reflection...:whatthe:

Well, without research, I believe I've reached the end of my ability to solve this one. If this has anything to do with refractive/reflective properties of light, or the physics of the light wave, I'm lost, unless I can research and re-learn what I've forgotten from high school.

This is Brody, respectfully admitting defeat, unless research is legal here.

to block out the sun, the moon would have to appear either the same size, or bigger in the day's sky than the sun.

Is the extended finger between the two in size, to where is it just big enough to block the sun, but too small to block the moon?

The moon appears larger at night since during the day it is too bright to see the edge edges of the moon.

At night, it is darker (by definition) which causes your eyes to dilate, allowing in more light. with bigger pupils, your extended finger will not block out the moon.

WARNING: This is a devilishly good one.

There I was sitting at the counter at Sam's Luncheonette in our fair city. The sky had been angry that day, but it was clearing with faint white whisps, clinging desperately to a promise to be a blazing blue sky. There I was spilling egg on my shirt and I noticed a woman and her son next to me at the counter doing his arithmetic homework. And they're adding a bunch of decimels. And I'll give you the numbers;

6.2, 1.1, 2.2, and 3.2.

If you add that up normally you'll get 12.7. But that's not the answer the mother got, she got 14.1.

I was about to butt in and point out that they'd made a mistake in adding up the numbers, but just then, they got to leave and put on their hats and coats. Hats and Coats. And I realized that they had not made a mistake. What were they adding to make 14.1 a perfectly legitimate answer?

This is devilishly good

they're counting someone's innings pitched.

It's common in baseball stats, to write a pitchers innings pitched as:

total innings.extra outs

So, with that said, we have 6, 1, 2, and 3 total innings for 12

plus 2, 1, 2, and 2 extra outs for 2 more total innings and 1 extra out. making 14.1 innings pitched.

Again, I liked this one Ten!

What do the following men have in common? Ulysses S. Grant, Rudyard Kipling, Woodrow Wilson, Grover Cleveland, and Calvin Coolidge. Now we know they're all dead. And they do have certainly that in common. What do they have in common other than the fact that they are all famous and that they're all dead?

Assuming I'm right I have one for you:
A kid at a fair meets a man who says I bet you $50 that I can write your weight on a piece of paper. The man has no scale and the kid does not see how the man could determine how much he weighs so he figures no matter what the man writes down he'll just say he's incorrect and take the money. The kid agrees, but when it's all said and done the kid ends up paying the man $50.

How did this happen?

Odd thoughts by Tenser

A major league umpire enters the subway by walking down the stairs with the assistance of his seeing eye dog. In fact, he had just come from Yankee Stadium where he had worked an afternoon double-header behind the plate. Anyway the dog leads him to the bottom of the stairs at the subway station where he arrives at a cage, behind which is sitting a woman who is the token vendor. And there's a sign below the window that says 'Tokens - 40 cents.' The dog pees on the sign while the guy rummages around in his pocket and through the slit in the cage he hands her a dollar.

No words are spoken. No gestures are exchanged. No little notes handed between them. She has never seen him before and he obviously has never seen her before. She hands him two tokens and 20 cents change. The question is very simply, how did she know he wanted two tokens and not one?

The dog is not involved. Is the fact that he is blind involved? Only tangentially.

I have never taken the subway so I am not sure exactly how it works, so I will guess that it takes two tokens or all trains from that point have a layover and they will need to get on two trains......just a guess.
