Re: games
Does Asteroids Deluxe suffer from the same saucer-hunting issues as the original?
PNS is currently vetoing Turbo Outrun. Sorry, RU, but we don't want to deal steering wheels and pedals, and I know it's something a few other reps didn't want to deal with, either. Unless you can convince us otherwise, please replace it.

Re: games
Asteroids Deluxe really doesn't have a leeching problem like original Asteroids. They made the UFOs "smarter" so that even trying to hunt is extraordinarily difficult. I asked DB Cooper about it (who's a kick ass Asteroids player) and he said leeching isn't something we should need to worry about. In addition the UFOs will eventually kill all the rocks even if you don't and force you to move on.

I have to agree that I don't think controls is a valid reason to remove Turbo Outrun. Yes, it plays different with a keyboard or joystick, but it's still playable.

Thanks for clearing up the AD one, George.
I'm asking a few guys to try Turbo Outrun tonight and tell me what they think. Will update when I hear more.

Re: games
Some of these games have secret codes. Specifically I know that at least Rainbow Islands and Bubble Bobble 2 have secret codes. Will be allowing the use of secret codes or not?

Re: games
Are any teams being merged? If so, how are game selections going to work for merged teams? The Spanish team only has 2 members currently. Presumably they'll be merged with Aussie?

Re: games
BB2 and Rainbow Islands code should be detectable from inp or video playback, I believe. Hard to say, though. That is 160 potential players who might play, which means a lot of inps and videos.

Unfortunately, as much as i don't want to see outrun in the tourney, it played just fine on mame .155 with controller.

I vote we put Flicky back in as it is not likely to even come close to being marathoned. Limited lives and high difficulty make it insanely hard to do.

I tried it in MAME 0.149.2 and it worked fine with a USB controller (SNES pad).

Re: games
Hi all!
Considering MARP_Team games were not updated here by wolfman yet (games already submitted), here is our list:
Games:
Shock Troopers (shocktro)
Time Pilot '84 (tp84) - Use Difficulty Hard which is current MAME default. In older versions of MAME (e.g. .106 and .101) you will need to change it to Difficulty Hard
Street Fighter II': Champion Edition (World 920313) (this is sf2ceea in the latest versions of MAME but is the old sf2ce parent romset if you are using .106)
Alternates:
Twin Cobra (twincobr)
Golden Axe (goldnaxe) - No Magic allowed - Use Strength for scoring
Black Widow (bwidow)
---------- Post added 06-30-2015 at 12:54 AM ---------- Previous post was 06-29-2015 at 11:22 PM ----------
Quick words about some games:
- Nova2001: Marathonable. Also in harder difficulties, if memory serves.
forums.marpirc.net • View topic - ***MARATHON GAMES-ALL MARPERS PLEASE RESPOND***
- 10 Yard Figh: Marathonable?
forums.marpirc.net • View topic - Golden Era Game of the Week 7/9/05: 10 Yard Fight
- Gyruss: Marathonable.
- Mr. Do Wild Ride: Some issues in an specific advanced stage? (Extremely hard to complete that stage). If so, allow or disallow the leeching in the previous stage?
- DoDonPachi DaiOuJou: Relatively "new" game? (about hardware/CPU to run it properly);
- Bubble Bobble 2: Secret codes that someone said.
- Blood Bros: leech-able?
I think Turbo Out Run is OK with a digital input.

Considering we're only requiring inp/video for first place scores, we won't be able to check for codes on most scores. This is still pretty much an "honor system" tournament, so the main thing I think is to state what the rules are around codes, make those rules very clear, then rely on honorable behavior by the players to follow the rules.
So the question would be, are codes allowed or not? If they're allowed we should state that. If they aren't we should state that. I'm ok either way, but don't want people to start complaining about it halfway through the tournament.

By the way, the 2 players (Carnage and Gomas) that are in RetroVicio/ArcadeSpain will be in MARP team. Wes will edit it, because they can't do it themself in the IGBY page.
Note: "Your team selection can be altered at any time before the event begins."
Thanks!

Re: games
I'm a bit concerned about Road Runner. The original arcade cabinet uses a Hall Effect Joystick, which are fairly obscure and you're not going to find a MAME control that really behaves that way. I know Steve Wagner used to have a Road Runner cabinet and may be able to elaborate on if this game might be a problem in MAME.

I agree with all these words.
Suggestion? Bubble Bobble: allow. Rainbow Islands: I don't know.

I can't be specific, but I remember a possible problem with Road Runner game.

No codes allowed for Rainbow Islands.
Edit: Also, I don't see any problems with Turbo OutRun. Road Runner feels a little slippery with a stick or keyboard compared to the arcade.. Been ages since I played it on real hardware tho.

Re: games
How does this sound? Anybody found to use a cheat on Rainbow Islands or BB2 disqualifies their positions 3-5 for their team for that game. Maybe we give them more stick here since we can't offer a carrot. I will do my best to help check the beginning of inps and videos, if that is what it takes.

Re: games
I'd suggest that all their personal scores are removed. The "hurt the team" stick assumes that nobody gets disgruntled and acts stupidly. Better an individual punishment I think.
Oh, and banned from future tournaments of course.

Re: games
I suppose sticks do need to be talked about.
If only 1 in a hundred players is a miserable cheating scrote, we already have 1.7 on board.
Perhaps, though, cheating on RI and BB2 ought to be treated just like cheating on any other title, should it be discovered.
If these cheats are likely to be a problem on these two games, should inps be required for all subs on them... or should the games just be replaced to keep things simple?

I'd say inp's required is a good way to go.
