I finished the series a couple days ago. Just from looking at it, I didn't really think I'd be into Gurren Lagann. It looked kinda childish and cheesy. I was dead wrong. It takes a few episodes to get going, but once it does, it gets to be one of the most over the top shows I've ever seen. Basically, just take Evangelion, and make it the complete opposite, then you get Gurren Lagann. I'd say at this point, it's my favorite anime, even over the likes of Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop, both of which I loved.

An old friend pressured me into watching it and it had the same affect on me.

It certainly felt like they were always trying to surpass the last episode, to that the point that the last few episodes are just insane.
